Greetings, all! *CHECK OUT "MY FAITH LOOKS UP TO THEE" FOR YOUR MP3 PLAYER/iPOD! As you'll see, I'm a versatile vocalist who loves a variety of music. I like creating vocal harmony, which comes from many years of choral singing, including the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and The Blossom Festival Chorus, with trips to Chautauqua, New York and Carnegie Hall. I like doing my own background tracks too, if at all possible, mainly because I enjoy the creativity! I love studio work and have done lead and/or background vocals for most all genres, including classical, jazz, blues, reggae, gospel, and country western.

Chaka Khan has been one of my favorites for years, as well as of course, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Minnie Riperton, Phoebe Snow, Carla Cook, Nina Simone, Rachelle Ferrell, and Cassandra Wilson. I grew up with jazz in the house. Favorite classical divas are Jessye Norman, Marvis Martin, and Kathleen Battle. Roberta Flack was very inspirational as well, and is one of my sorors! Delta Sigma Theta, "Ooo-oop"; University of Cincinnati, Zeta Chapter while attending the conservatory getting that music degree! I like Duke Ellington's music and of course other jazz, some hip-hop, rock, a lot of reggae which I've done background vocals for, R&B, Soul, Blues, Spirituals, especially those sung a cappella, various styles of gospel, and lots of other just plain good music. Classical composers whose work I've really liked doing are Debussy, Richard Wagner, Gustav Mahler, and other composers particularly of the impressionist period. I actually appreciate any exceptional artist: actor/actress, singer, instrumentalist, composer, dancer, playwright, or media artist.
My experiences also include theater at Karamu House, East Cleveland Theater, The Palace Theater, and others including working with costuming at Eldred Theater at Case Western Reserve University, and Chagrin Valley Little Theater. In addition to costume work, I've also done some acting, most recently with August Wilson's "Joe Turner's Come and Gone" at East Cleveland Theater in 2007, and with Scott Joplin's opera, "Treemonisha" at Karamu House, for which I received an actor's guild award for the 2001-2002 season. Performance credits for dance include a variety of West African Dance performances over the years, leading to my developing the African Dance Praise Ministry at my church, and my performance in Thomasvisions' praise dance production "Movement of Spirit and Soul" at Cuyahoga Community College in December of 2007. Additionally, my journeys to Nigeria, Ghana, and Cuba served as the basis for my being featured in the PBS television documentary, "This Far By Faith", which aired nationwide in 2002. Overall, the documentary focused on the importance of faith in the lives of African-Americans.
Registered nursing, training in the Brennan energy healing method, master level Reiki, and public speaking and facilitating behavior mod workshops for my small business Obara, Inc., round out my activities and interests. 10 year old Smoke Jazz & Supper Club-Lounge, is located in the south side of Harlem. These pictures are of my jazz buddy (and "fam"!), trumpet player Donald Malloy. The club features jazz 7 nights a week. This was a Monday night in September and the place was packed as in, no more seats available, with folks from NYC, as well as from France, Canada, and New Zealand. But Donald didn't tell me that the man who came up and gave kudos to my vocals was Lou Donaldson, Art Blakey's alto sax player. So I didn't get a picture with him. Boooo.... No Donald, I DIDN'T know who that was! Duh...

I’m doing fine thanks. I have started to write a new book in English so one day I hope you will have the opportunity to read it. In the book I challenge the conventional idea that philosophy was some kind of Western invention that began in Greece. There were philosophical ideas in Mesopotamia more than 1000 years earlier than in Greece. I'm sure there were philosophy in other countries as well but that is difficult to prove because of lack of written sources. I know this will be a very controversial book and conservative historians of philosophy will be very angry over it. But I welcome that. It’s time to challenge the myth of “Western cultural supremacy” over the older cultures in Near East, Africa and China.
