About Barbara & Terry Brunette - Rock/Jazz/Blues/Pop
..
Long Island, New York - Singer/Songwriter/Musician - Barbara Brunette, originally born in Brooklyn, New York, started performing in her teens as Lead Guitarist/Lead Singer in cover Bands on Long Island, playing Pubs, Bars and Private Parties and making a name for herself, but Life intervened, and she had to take a Hiatus - but that didn't quell her Lifelong Passion for Music.
Barbara has composed over 90 songs, to date, in many different styles -
such as but not limited to: Rock, Jazz, Blues, Pop and Alternative.
*Barbara's uncompromising Passion for Music/Guitar and other Music and
Instruments - has ben elevated to a status, where she is being asked to do STUDIO GUITAR WORK for other Musicians, and she is a very knowledgeable and expert SOUND ENGINEER as well. She is a GIFTED LEAD GUITARIST as well as RHYTHM GUITARIST, and comes up with very Unusual Leads and Arrangements for just about ANY Style/kind of Music.
As a result of her many Musical Talents - she has been asked to join a Band and tour - but she prefers to work on her own material and does Musical and Sound Engineering Studio Work.*
Recent collaborations have resulted in new and exciting opportunities for
The Brunettes and they've been maniacally busy Recording, doing Shows
and making brand new and exciting Music!
Living on Long Island, New York, Barbara is beginning to build a broad Fan-Base. She is expanding Musically, into other areas on Long Island, and, of course, beyond. She has received very enthusiastic responses from her International Fans and is continuing to reach out to as many of them as she can.
Barbara has recorded her first Album of original songs, released through 'ParrotOx Productions'. She has just started work on her second album, in collaboration with her Musical Partner and mysterious and Talented Cohort - Terry. Due to the heavy and intense schedule of The Brunettes, the CD is scheduled and expected to be released in 2010.
Very Artistcally inclined, Barbara has done the orignal abstract painting for her first album with 'hidden clues' in its meaning. Many of her paintings are displayed in her home.
Terry - is the sometimes reclusive, but always enigmatic and hauntingly mysterious figure in this Musical Parnership. She has a Passionate Obsession for all things Musical and ALL things Creative and Mind-Bending! With her velvety, resonant, haunting Background Vocals and intricate Harmonies, she adds great depth to Barbara's deep, Bluesy voice and unique musical stylings. Terry is very musically gifted, having composed a Classical 'Etude in D-Minor' and a very clever Baroque piece for Piano, and other original songs on Guitar. Terry does all the Vocal Arrangements for Harmony and has co-written a few songs with Barbara as well. Terry plays Guitar, Harmonica and other 'unorthodox' musical instruments such as Recorder, Accordion, and does Cuban-style percussion. She is also a gifted Writer and published Poet and has been bestowed an International Award for her Poetry and is included in a Collection an American Anthology of Poetry. And all this enriches this Musical Jambalaya. She is also a member of the EMMA ZALE BAND. Because of Terry's many Talents, she is involved in a number of creative projects and has been asked to do overseas work, but she prefers to stay in New York and work on her own Projects and with her Duo consisting of Barbara and herself.
Being a talented Artist as well, Terry created and designed the Logo for ParrotOx Productions, and revels in doing very strange surreal and Outre' Art, perhaps even showcasing her Bizarre Art in a Gallery someday. Terry is also the Designer/Creator and Manager of this Website. She LOVES working and creating Web Designs that are Unusual and Distinctive!
She is currently composing/arranging her own Music, some of which will be featured on the upcoming CD, and is writing an Autobiographical Book with Audio CD - full of original Poetry, Readings, Artwork and original Background Music. Terry loves 'Beat' Poetry , as well - which is recited with Music. Her passion for Music ranges from Baroque, Medieval-Renaissance, Gregorian Chants, Jazz, Blues Rock, Pop to New Wave/New Age, Goth, Punk, Thrash and International - ESPECIALLY FLAMENCO and TANGO!!! She is a 'Blithe Spirit' and a TRUE Bohemian and feels to the very depths of her core, that Music, is without a doubt - The Universal Language, that breaks down all Barriers.

.. APRIL LAWTON: In Memorium... April Lawton was a PHENOMENOM - but very few people have ever heard of her. she died 3 years ago on Thanksgiving, and was known as 'The Female Jimi Hendrix'. What makes April Lawton SO unique is that this was in the early 1970s where Lead Female Guitarist were practically unheard of and yet she not only managed to pull it off, but blew away her Male Competitors in a way which made them absolutlely furious with Style, Grace, Panache and Unsurpassed Passion & Skill! So, why has practically no one heard of her...as it turns out - her health was delicate and after a few albums, she retired from the Music Business and concentrated on being a Great Graphics Artist - living (and dying of Heart Problems, sadly) in virtual obscurity. Barbara had the Good Fortune to know her and witness her Genius with the Electric Guitar first-hand. I never got to meet April but have heard her Music and am totally blown away by her playing - I get chills up and down my spine when I listen to her play. April Lawton will always live on - in our Hearts & Soul - What an INCREDIBLE TALENT!. Miss you, April! ..
Thank you Barbara and Terry for inviting me to hammer out a few tunes. In your last set, I was intrigued to I hear you announce that you were going to cover a song by "Lighthouse". And I thought I was one of the few standing that remembered that band. Nice pick!!!
That was a really fun gig tonight with a great community of musicians. Maggie and I loved your set. Thanks for inviting me to play on the break. See you tomorrow night at Correntes' Halloween Party!
.. LAURA NYRO-BEST OF THE BEST! Although I'm a bit late for this, Sunday October 18th marked LAURA NYRO'S Birthday...unfortunately, she died at age 49 years of Ovarian Cancer. Mostly unknown, her Music was filled with complex Melodies, Rhythms, Tempo changes, Unusual Chord Progressions, Extreme Vocals - with a 3-Octave range which made it quite difficul for most Musicians to play or sing. She was mostly shunned by The Music Industry yet they meted out her songs to other Artists who went on to have HUGE hits with her Music-such as The 5th Dimension, BS&T, Barbra Streisand, and many others. The Thing is: LAURA NYRO'S Music was UNCATEGORIZABLE and she was INCOMPARABLE and UNCOMPROMISING in her Passion for Music. LAURA NYRO'S Music & Legacy Live On! If you like easy Melodies and uncomplicated Music then Laura Nyro will not be your 'Cup of Tea', but if you're a Rebel Non-Conformist who's drawn to the Unusual, then Laura Nyro might be the Fix you're looking for or maybe 'something else. I salute ALL Musicians who do it for the Passion of Music!
Hey ladies!! Thank you again for coming out to my gig last week---I always enjoy listening to you guys! It was a fun night--just wish my cold was 100% gone by then-but oh well, what can ya do! :) I'm glad to know you both had fun-and I agree, Gemma is a sweetheart!!!!! I'm looking forward to seeing you on the 30th!
Hi, Barbara and Terry - thanks so much for the B-Day wishes...I will try to make one of your shows in the near future. I could really use a dose of coffee hound!
