Barbara Gehlmann’s music has often been compared as the modern day folk-rock, blues style of Janis Joplin. Constantly experimenting with different genres of music ranging from folk, to blues, and just straight up rock n’ roll, Barbara Gehlmann captures the rawest of emotions with a natural ability to entertain.
Barbara Gehlmann has been included several times on Michelle Malone’s SBS Records Compilation Disks which feature artists as Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland, Kevin Kenny of Drivin’ n Cryin’, Amy Ray, and many more. Also, Barbara Gehlmann has had the honor of sharing the stage with Michelle Malone, Jennifer Nettles, Angie Aparo, Corey Crowder, Pat McGee, Melissa Ferrick, Edwin McCain, Cigar Store Indians, SoulPhood, Prof. Griff of Public Enemy, and The Marshall Tucker Band in several venues throughout the southeast.
Revealing influences from Janis Joplin to Melissa Etheridge, then Joan Baez to Otis Redding, and having found her place on stage with her guitar, South Carolina singer/songwriter, Barbara Gehlmann, sings about life experiences that have changed her life over the years. Her words dive straight into the soul and her emotions resonate with every note. She sums it all up this way: “Music is more than just a passion to me…it’s more like my own personal therapy. I can rage and scream if I want to and well…just cry if I need to. And if other people can relate and feel the passion too, then that’s just an added bonus.”
