Life! In big hunks, loud and in living color!

I find practically everything very interesting with the exception of accordians and marinara sauce. Would love to see my son do a barrel roll on his snowboard.

Lutherie is my job and my obsession. It brings me into contact with incredibly talented people.
    Here'e one of them--Eliot Fisk.

Eliot Fisk plays Bach on Carla Kelly's rare "Stellar Class" guitar
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtLSEKsLcyQ

Eliot Fisk playing the double of the Sarabande from Bach's Bm violin partita on Carla Kelly's rare organic electric classical guitar with a galactic theme- the Stellar Class. This was filmed on a cell phone at a casual get-together at the Fisk residence in 2006.

Here's the brilliant young classical guitarist, Mitch Turbenson, the owner of that Stellar Class guitar, doing a sound test right after he received it.

    Stellar Class guitar sound test

Mitch Turbenson testing his new Stellar Class acoustic/electric classical guitar by luthier Carla Kelly.

And here's my good buddy, Sean Frenette, (who helped develop my flagship guitar) playing his prototype El Class in an extemporaneous accompanyment for dancers. You can't see him playing until 3:57 into the piece, but this is the cleanest sound recorded to date.

..On April 19, 2009 Sean Frenette performed on the El Class prototype guitar at ..Carnegie Hall..!! Would someone please pinch me?!
Sean, congratulations! And thank you! You are the very best of friends and a smokin' musician. Seems like I'm getting to know the restaurants around Carnegie Hall since I met you. :)

About me:

...the kind of person who checks "Other" a lot when filling out forms. I was born during WW II, moved around like a gypsy, made my living as a writer, and now I'm a professional luthier, building "Organic" guitars, one-of-a-kind acoustic-electric instruments for serious musicians.

Since 1999 I've been studying West African drumming. My primary teachers include Abdoulaye Sylla, Mito Camera and Tonton Sylla (all from Les Ballet Africains), Paul Assegai BabaOni'lu (founder of Soli Soma), Rick Liegl and Frank "Father Time" Annati. Just can't get enough djembe!

I'm "Mama" (or some such thing--call it "Friend") to a tribe of highly creative people who get together whenever possible, usually at my place, to play "other" music and inspire one another. We call ourselves the Knothole Gang. Most of the Gang are in their 20's, some too young to drink, some "retired" like me. A few are famous; more will be. Some have no rhythm, some have no rhyme, but we all love, respect, and nurture one another in every way we can. Life is grand.

Who I'd like to meet:

Whoopie Goldberg, the Dali Lama, Ellen DeGeneres, Robin Williams, Barack Obama, Marge Piercy, Senator Robert C. Byrd, Leo Brouwer,--oh, virtually anybody who's not afraid to think.

In the magicalities of a could,
Between the probabilities of a would,
Beyond the trivialities of a should,
    In these ungraspable mysticalities
    There lies a secret a passage…
    To this extraordinary wood.

But for you, it unfolds easily and true
And the only thing you have to do
Is press play, and you’ll have a view.

Let us present a little comment,
That in this very particular moment,
Presents happiness for lack of rejection
    That turned into invisible connection
    Of ThiSpace and ThaTime friends,
Link so sturdy that it never ends,
And a little video it sends...
