There is a dog park meet up scheduled for Monday, September 28 at 6:00pm. Everyone should bring their pets - please remember to bring poop bags just in case, and also that there should be no children, puppies, or dogs on leashes inside of the the park. Hope to see you there!
I was at the dog park today with the active dog meet up group. Someone told me about the problem with the pool. I'm sorry they gave you a hard time and yes, my dogs come home muddy from the park every single time they are there ---they will find some mud or at least try to lay in the water bowls if there is no mud. All I can say is that we are only the group that organized the money aspect of the park - other than trying to help 'police' the park when we can, there isn't much we can do about the parks people. All I can say is someone must have complained...maybe I should complain about all the people who break the rules on a daily basis, no? I spend all my time there telling people that kids can't be in the park and that they need to take puppies out of the park and trying to explain while dogs should not be on leashes in the park. Ugh. One lady was bitching today because she couldn't pick up her dog poop because there was no bags - but she said it was the same yesterday. Why do dog owners not carry poop bags with them??? I don't leave home without them! And she had been there two days in a row without any!!!!!!! Sorry for the rant! And Sorry again for what happened with the pool. I don't think any of the regular dog park users had an issue -I mean, who's dog goes to the park and doesn't get dirty?????? All I can say is call and complain to Parks and Rec ---because it doesn't say you can't bring your own pool as long as you take it home every day....just say its a very large water bowl!!!!
I didn't know where else to place a comment but on myspace. Some of us dog owns got together and decided it would be a GREAT idea if we put a little plastic dog pool out there, for our bigger dogs. It is way to hot in the summer not to have one. So we did. The dogs and owners both loved it! Well, yesterday a supervisor I don't know if it is for the city or the park in general, came out and said that someone complained about the mud. Yes, they did complain about the mud, the pre-exsisting mud holes. Anyway standing water or mud created from the pool would be covered by the pool after it's daily cleaning. When the man was asked why children under the age of twelve can come to a dog park and dogs made to leave when he/she knocks a child down. He said, "Call the police", you can't call the police for something like that. That is petty. Then he was asked where in the rules did it say that we cannot bring a small pool to keep our animals cool. He could not respond. So I am asking you directly. What is wrong with a small pool to keep our big, hairy, dogs cool in the summer? As long as it is maintained everyday. That means dumped, washed, and refilled. Please send me an email or comment back on this matter. Thank you. I am at the dog park everyday. So you can come out there if you like. I am there about 12 noon, til 5 or 6pm.
Bear (my west highland terrier) LOVES the dog park! I'm from Houston, Texas...we have a few dog parks - and I was so happy to see Fayetteville has one, too.
It has been brought to our attention that many people are not following the rules by still bringing small children to the dog park and having their dogs off leash outside of the fenced area.
The rules of the park clearly state that children must be 12 years old or older to enter the fenced area of the park. This includes children in strollers or being held in arms. Park and Recreation came up with this rule to keep everyone safe. To be able to keep the park up and running, we must make sure people are aware of this. Please, if you are ever at the park and see anyone with children inside the fence, please gently direct them to the front entrance posting of the rules. I would hate to see our dog park that so many worked so hard to get be closed because a child was knocked over and hurt by a dog who was just running and doing as a dog should do in the park (I was almost knocked over twice today and I'm very sturdy, so I can only imagine what could happen to a 6 year old if this happened).
Also, I witnessed today a family come up with their dog not on a leash. There is still a leash law in Cumberland County and the dog park is an exception to this rule - only inside the fence. Please remember if you bring your pet to the park they must be on a leash until inside the double entry gateway.
The Active Dog Meetup Group is planning a meet up at the park on October 26th. That's a Sunday at 11am. Everyone should come out for a good get together on that date!
