       Graham Garfield's Blurbs
    About me:

    Barnard's Star Productions was founded in 2002 by Graham 'Garfield' Barnard after writing, producing and directing his first film (HITCH) with Tim Newsom in charge of music and editing duties. Our second film, a parody of movie-making documentaries, was awarded First Prize at the Leichhardt Royal Short Film Festival in July 2002.

    Since then, with the invaluable assistance of director/editor Josh Groom and composer/photographer Chris Newton, the Barnard's Star Production team has been actively involved in dozens of short films and music videos including BROKEN, GIANT MONSTER TRASHES CITY, KARMASTRUCK, RIDE ON! and many more.

    In 2006, on the verge of producing a new album of old jazz television themes, Barnard's Star Productions was approached by TVS Television Sydney to create a new short film show featuring much of our own work. ANTHOLOGY OF INTEREST was well-received so another program, similar but different, was devised for Aurora TV. With Aurora's help DARK CARNIVAL reaches those places other community stations don't, getting our film-making friends seen far and wide.

    Within a few short years, we are now being screened Australia-wide on TVS Sydney, Melbourne C31, Brisbane QCTV, Aurora Digital 183, and New Zealand Stratos/Triangle TV. Encouragement is our primary goal at Barnard's Star Productions, a strictly not-for-profit organisation. We are well aware there are far better film makers out there that deserve to be screened and seen around Australia and around the world. Our programs now thrive on their many kind submissions and contributions.

    As well as THE SCHLOCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, we're currently compiling the next series of both ANTHOLOGY OF INTEREST and SPOOL OF ROCK for TVS/C31, and DARK CARNIVAL for Aurora Community Television Digital 183. We present a few short films book-ended by simple graphics. No hosts, no talking heads. As the title implies, it doesn't necessarily have to be good, just interesting. We are screened on TVS at 9.30 pm Thursday nights, and on Aurora at 11.00 pm Monday nights. A blanket 'M' rating is fine with us, even though most of the material is no where near as strong as that.

    We ask all filmmakers to send any and all possible submissions, and spread the word. Practically any digital format or disc will do, even miniDV tape. Any material supplied is returned within a few weeks, accompanied by a compilation DVD of our early efforts. Unfortunately, being community television, there's no money involved. All costs, from postage to tapes, come out of my pocket, but because of that, the film makers individual work is not tied-up in any way.

    As for our contributors, I keep in constant contact, alerting them to broadcast dates and screenings, so they can alert friends and family. We wish to convey complete transparency in all our dealings, we're just fans who enjoy fan films, strictly not-for-profit. Tim Newsom's the computer wiz, I'm just the idea guy and mail-boy. Our catalogue now includes over almost two hundred(!) hours of television produced within the last three years:

  • ANTHOLOGY OF INTEREST - Seventy-eight episodes so far, twenty-five minutes each, no repeated material. Screened in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, New Zealand. Nominated for Antenna Awards Best Arts Program of 2008.

  • DARK CARNIVAL - Sixty-five episodes so far, twenty-five minutes each, no repeated material. Screened throughout Australia on Aurora Community TV Digital 183.

  • THE SCHLOCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW - Fifty-three episodes so far, ninety minutes each, no repeated material. Hosted by Nigel Honeybone, screened in Sydney and throughout New Zealand.

  • SEE YOU NEXT WEDNESDAY (premiers 2009) Thirteen episodes so far, ninety minutes each, no repeated material. Hosted by Nick Stathopoulos, to be screened in Sydney and throughout New Zealand.

  • SPOOL OF ROCK (premiers 2009) Two 'reels' so far, sixty music videos, approximately four hours worth, no repeated material, released upon an unsuspecting world, screening in Sydney, Brisbane, and New Zealand.

    Hello to all,
    Just thought we'd stop by and say thank you ,to all the awesome bands that have sent in their material which has been aired on the show throughout the years.

    We have had an exceptional response through myspace from some of the most talented underground musicians in the world . It is your contribution to our show that show people that there are still actually real musicians out there [and rap is surely not damn music, neither is that techno crap].

    Undergroundsounds airs throughout Australia Thursday/Saturdays p.m.

    Bands that would like their music aired on any future shows can forward their material to the address below;
