| The Barnum Effect: General Info
|
| Member Since | 3/21/2006 | | Band Members | Jeff, on keyboards and vocals. Formerly of the Velvet Swines, an underground favorite from days gone by, Jeff coaxed some of the former Swines back to form the Gas Giants, who rocked the house regularly at Jon & Peters in New Hope, PA. He cranks out catchy little numbers like My love is blue, the story of a man & his mummy. Jeff idolizes Jimmy Smith and would sell his firstborn child for a real Hammond B3 with a Leslie if he could hire someone to carry it around. The Gas Giants changed their name to the current Barnum Effect when Will came on the scene as their new drummer. More about him later.
Judy, on guitar & lead vocals. Judy teaches music to yuppie schoolchildren when she isnt corrupting minors in the hottest clubs in town. Judy also writes some of the tunes, drawing from the abundance of irony in real life. Her big hit Cash Cow is a tribute to a certain mega-popstar who Did it Again- oops! She comes from a folk music background, but has since changed her not-so-evil ways & gets her kicks wowing them with her full-on Blues Mama song stylings, reminiscent of a cross between Bessie Smith and Dagmar Krause.
Will, on drums- formerly the drummer in The Throbbing Russells, a serious rock/metal band in sunny LA with a loyal following, Will just flew in from the Left Coast & boy are his arms tired. Will can do anything that involves a beat, from rock, to jazz, to speed metal, to artsy poetry readings. And thats sometimes in the same song if Jeff is writing them.
Wilhelm III, lead guitar and vocals. Bill divides his time between The Barnum Effect & Trap Door, a retro disco band, which plays regularly in the Allentown/Bethlehem area. He was also a member of the infamous Velvet Swines. Bill also sings in a choir in his spare time, when there is any. He was classically trained and has a voice that would make Ethel Merman shake in her boots while he plays serious rock & blues riffs on his axe that would make Jimi Hendrix jealous, or at least turn over.
Erik, the little Dutch boy on bass. He arrived with the tulips one spring not too long ago. Originally born here, but raised in Holland, he was living in the good ole U.S. when he too played in the Velvet Swines, followed by stints with Birthday Girl and Old Fezziwhig before he went back to Holland. When Jeff formed the Gas Giants, Erik was back in town and jumped at the opportunity to work together again & then he stayed on board for The Barnum Effect.
