Born in Sydney Australia, Barrington Pheloung first became involved in music at the age of six when he was given his first guitar. Since then his chosen career has extended into all areas of the music industry.
A busy and prolific composer, Barrington has written numerous film scores across all genres. Recent productions include Sharon Maguire’s Incendiary (starring Ewan McGregor and Michelle Williams) for FilmFour and Capitol Films and Anand Tucker’s And When Did You Last See Your Father? (starring Colin Firth and Jim Broadbent) for Number 9 Films and FilmFour. Barrington also collaborated with Tucker on Disney’s dysfunctional romantic comedy Shopgirl (starring by Steve Martin, Claire Danes and Jason Schwartzman) for Hyde Park Entertainment.
“Every film I have made in the last decade has been scored by Barrington so now I already hear the sound of his music when
I am shooting which is incredibly helpful and inspiring.
I hope we’re working together until we are 85!”
Anand Tucker (Director)
"Barrington's score for "Shopgirl" added such a lush layer on top of our film. His compositions are simultaneously thought-provoking and incredibly emotional. Given that our movie was about the complications and comfort of love, it was essential that our score capture the myriad nuances of that - all while subtly building to a powerfully moving resolution. Barrington gave us all that and more." - Jon Jashni (Producer) - Hyde Park Entertainment for Disney.
Film credits also include:
The Little Fugitive (starring Peter Dinklage, David Castro and Sophie Dahl), the Oscar nominated Hilary and Jackie for October Films / BBC (starring Emily Watson and Rachel Griffiths) for which he received a BAFTA nomination, the classic film Truly, Madly, Deeply for MGM (directed by Anthony Minghella starring Alan Rickman and Juliet Stevenson), Nostradamus for MGM / United Artists (starring John Malkovich and Julia Ormond) for which he was nominated for Best Original Music category in the Ivor Novello Awards, Saint-Ex for BBC (starring Miranda Richardson and Bruno Ganz), Shuang Long Hui (aka Twin Dragons) (starring Jackie Chan), Shopping for Polgram Films (starring Jude Law and Sean Bean) and the horror film The Mangler for New Line Cinema (starring Robert Englund).
He began his work in television in 1985 composing his first television series, the 13-part Boon. Since then Barrington's work has been enjoyed on all of the 33 Inspector Morse episodes. The Morse album reached No.4 in the UK charts and received a BAFTA nomination for Best Television Music. Sales of the Morse album have now exceeded 1 million units! Barrington has completed 4 films of Lewis, the spin-off to Morse, for ITV/Granada with another 4 in production. He also recently conducted the RPO with Lesley Garrett, Alfie Boe and Sir Willard White at The Royal Albert Hall for The Music Of Morse weekend which was broadcast on Classic FM and ITV and presented by Michael Parkinson.

Hi Barrington! Hope you and your offspring are well this holiday season. Los Angeles misses you. Let me know next time you're here and will make another visit to Formosa!
Hiya. Thanks for the add. I love your Morse music, I have the CDs, they are beautiful. The music added SO much to the atmosphere of the show and to the character of Morse, gave the audience a deeper understanding. Thankyou for sharing your talent with the world. Have a good one. Best wishes from Australia. :) M xx
Shopgirl, which is my favorite movie, introduced me to your beautiful music. And although Shopgirl is fantastic in itself, it would not be the beautiful and touching movie it is, without you moving music.
Thank you for adding me to your friends. Your music is so good, thanks for the enjoyment you bring to us all. I hope you have a great week. Love Denise xx
