New PROJECT RADIO BABEL MARSEILLE ! Barrio Chino, named for the port area in Barcelona, plays music as mestizo as the neighborhood from which it took its title. The group’s music reflects the background of its founders, brother and sister Sylvie and Gil Aniorte-Paz. Their grandparents hailed from Algeria (Almeria and Madrid), themselves, brought up in Catalonya and are now based in Marseilles.
The guiding musical style for Barrio Chino is flamenco rumba, and their current musical explorations follow the constantly evolving "Camino de la Rumba". Barrio Chino has collaborated with Maurice EL Medioni, Papo Pepin, Ai Ai Ai, Amina Annabi,, Oba Ilu,Conexion Salsera, Yomira John, El Sika Meya... Other inspiration comes from gypsies influences, Greek bouzouki, Sephardic mandolin music, and Arabic-Andalucian percussion. The members of the band hail from Spain, France, Sicilia, Cuba and Algeria.
Creation : The ORIENTALES, tribute to Algerian Music Hall with 3 singers and a franco-algerian orchestra with Barrio Chino and L’Orchestre à cordes de la radio Algérienne. In 2007 - 2008 the prepare the new project SYLVIE PAZ : Tirititran and in 2009/2010 the elegant KAIROS... and the brillant CABARET ELDORADO (cd Gil aniorte)
