Bass Clef Experiment is a creative collaboration between bassist Greg Gohde and cellist Mike Alvarez. Playing a wide variety of music encompassing classic rock, blues and jazz as well as their own original compositions, they bring a unique sound to concert stages throughout San Diego.
A bowmaker by trade, Greg is an accomplished player of many stringed instruments, including the guitar and bass as well as the entire family of orchestral strings. He has worked with with Dennis Cahill, Tom Gunty, Jack Straw, The Kent Brothers Band, and the San Diego Mandolin Orchestra, among others. He has also shared the stage with San Diego's Phil Harmonic. Greg is a master of the fretted and fretless bass guitars, and employs a myriad of techniques to get the most out of his instruments. His years of musical experience include teaching as well as performing. Greg runs Classic Bows Violin Shop with his wife Lois Bach where they sell and repair stringed instruments.. Their shop also features an extensive selection of music-themed gift items.
Mike Alvarez is an avid progressive rock fan who started his musical life learning the piano. After trying the violin, he discovered that he liked the cello better, even though it towered over him at the time. A self-taught guitarist, bassist and percussionist, he returned to his true musical love and has since been a highly sought-after accompanist onstage and in the studio. Some of his proudest musical moments were spent onstage with Erik Norlander, Lana Lane, Mark McCrite, Don Schiff, Vinny Appice, and Nima & Merge. Other notable partnerships have been with Bridget Brigitte, Scot Taber, Rustik Ballyd, and Michele Shipp. He occasionally records and performs solo as the One Dude Orchestra.

Interesting show guys, quite a blend of stuff you guys have. Funk in E minor was the fave for me, it's a great key and a driving in a fun way kind of song.
Hello Mike, Greg ad Lois! It was a pleasure meeting and chatting with you guys. Hope we get to play together again real soon. Really dug the Beatles maybe cause it was Sir Pauls Birthday... Chelsea
Yes, you and I are making lots of spaces on myspace.. excellleeeent!
"Under The Olive Tree" was sung by my writing partner Tully Winfield and her brother Billy. Would have been cool if it were me BUT the song called for there style of vocal. I put an NS/Solo up, when you get a chance... be the first to listen.
Take care,
Don
