........ ....DJ / PRODUCER / SONGWRITER.... ....DESA FROM BASSHEADS, born in Birkenhead, Wirral, ran his own 'HOUSE CLUBS' on Merseyside called 'THE DEFHOUSE' and 'THE BASSMENT'. As an artist he recorded under the name 'BASSHEADS' and wrote and produced the enduring club classic anthem 'IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE' for De-Construction / EMI Records. He has re-mixed artists such as Visage, Bjork and Harry 'Choo Choo' Romero. .... ....THE DEFHOUSE: THE BASSMENT: THE BASSHEADS:.... ....The first 'CLUB NIGHT' on Merseyside to play 'HOUSE MUSIC' was called 'THE DEFHOUSE'' it was conceived, promoted and dee-jayed by Desa. It started in April 1987. Soul ll Soul and Robert Owens were just two of the many PA artistes who played there. This influential and inspiring night played host to many 'top' and 'upcoming' DJ's from London, Birmingham, Nottingham, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool, Chester and the Wirral. This night was held on the last Monday of every month at the Atmosphere Club in Birkenhead and had a regular attendance of 500+. The Defhouse closed it's doors in 1989 so Desa could spend more time promoting his new underground venue called 'THE BASSMENT' (Hamilton Square, Birkenhead) which opened in 1988 and to concentrate on recording music for his label 'DEFHOUSE RECORDS', which provided an outlet for him as an artiste under the guise of 'BASSHEADS' (the name of the project inspired by his Bassment Club). Desa released his first record in 1990 called 'THE DEFHOUSE EP VOLUME 1' (Cat No: DESA 1) quickly followed by 'THE DEFHOUSE EP VOLUME 2' (Cat No: DESA 2) both of which proceeded the recording of the classic house anthem 'IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE?' in 1991 (Cat No: DESA 3) before signing to De-construction/EMI Records. Many people traveled religiously through the Mersey tunnel every month in order to experience 'The Defhouse' and when 'Cream' opened in October 1992 and eventually became the 'super club' in the 90's, the foundations of the house music scene on Merseyside had been well and truly laid by Desa and The Defhouse five years earlier..... .. .. .. .. .. .. -
