I've been playing bass for 30 years, ever since I switched from guitar at 15. My first band was 'Javelin', a cover band we started in grade school.
After high school, I played in several hard rock/heavy metal bands throughout the 80's. As that genre died down, I became very interested in jazz fusion, and started a fusion band with some friends.
As happens with most musicians, other matters came to the forefront and I quit playing for a few years. But I've been playing again for 8 years now.
I love traditional jazz (Miles, Coltrane, etc.) and have been playing the upright for 5 years. It's a continual learning process that will likely last the rest of my life. Lately, I've been listening to a lot of jazz vocalists as well like Diana Krall. Jazz really speaks to me these days.
I was playing a kind of alternative thing for a while with The Intolerables, but that never left the recording studio. A couple of members from The Intolerables put together an Americana style band called Billy Two Shoes. I played on their second CD with them as well as a few shows.
Occasionally, I put together little recordings (solo and with other musicians). I have given my solo project the name Bass Is Life.
Here is a brief description of the songs you're hearing:
Pent Up House
A recording from my time at Jamey Aebersold's Jazz Camp
Best That You Leave It Alone
From the Billy Two Shoes CD New Shoes
Doin' What You Can
From the Billy Two Shoes CD New Shoes
Goin' Blind
My submission for a challenge issued to cover an old KISS song. Yes, that's me singing and playing upright bass.
Remember Here
A song I wrote for my mother, recorded with 6 separate bass track.
Here, There, and Everywhere
A solo bass version of the classic Beatles song.
Back In The Swing
An original song by Hard Knox, one of my hard rock bands from the 80s.
Shoot You
Another hard rock band from the 80s, Fayde
To The Heavens
A sample from my fusion era.
Can't Absorb The Madness
