Michel Voets-Songwriter's Blurbs |
About me:
I grew up in the big smoke of Sydney and played in numerous bands down there including 3 Way Radio, the Newtoys & The Dan Johnson Band. Even started a business building roadcases called Meiko Cases. I learnt about jazz at the Sydney Conservatorium in the 70's. Got pretty sick of the rat race and moved up the Northern Rivers area of NSW and have been a full-time Professional Musician for over 17 years. Over this time, in the past, most notable band I've played in is Hi Home I'm Honey with singer/songwriter/front-man Denny Prussian & Ex-Radiators drummer Micheal Buckley (aka Bucko)
Over the last 3 years, I've been playing bass, singing & songwriting in country rock blues outfit "Bo Jenkins Roadtrain" at gigs up and down the Gold Coast-Northern rivers area, as well as Music Festivals all over Australia. Two of my songs feature on Roadtrain's most recent self-titled Indie debut album (Pressed in Oct 06). Roadtrain is currently on hold whilst our drummer Pete Mcfarlane is overseas in England for a while. I'm currently working on my own solo album, and this is definitely work in progress! ..I also teach keyboard & bass guitar to the local music shop in Murwillumbah. Drop us a line if your are interested in lessons!
I've also written 2 original songs for a soon to be released Play/Film called "Holy Flypaper" in Australia around July 07 by local playwright Nicholas Canny as well as numerous songs over the years. Recently I've started playing with Gold Coast Jazz band The Cane Toads (strange name eh?) with Keyboard maestro/arranger Ken Bennett MD. This is made up of 3 piece rhythm section and 3 front line, made up of trumpet, bone and sax. Lately, I've bin playing with a couple of local musicians in a regular jam session called the "Have a Go Show" @ the Pottsville Sports Club held every Sunday Arvo from 4.00 till 8.00. This has been going since the beginning of October '07 last year and it's been really taking off! The guys in the House band are Rex Carter on Drums and Robby Cender on Guitar and we cover all genres, especially jazz, rock and pop.
The Have A Go Show Band has decided to call ourselves "Papa Funk" and check out our video of the Marvin Gaye classic "What's Going On" posted last week.
UPDATE:October'08 The "Have a go Show" has finished @ the Potty club and moved to the Courthouse Hotel on Thursday nites 7.30-11.00
