About me:
BATH CLIMATE CAMP HAS BEEN EVICTED, BUT THE DEMOS LISTED BELOW WILL STILL GO AHEAD AS PLANNED, CRASH SPACE IS ON OFFER! The Camp will be active from late afternoon on Thursady the 19th of april and will run until sunday the 22nd. The camp will be 100% eco-friendly and will have something for everyone. Activities will include - *An ethical kitchen serving breakfast and dinner for low donations *Evening entertainment featuring local acts and a chilled out soundsystem *Workshops and DIY sessions including - making stuff from 'junk', eating and the environment, green housing and more. *A kids zone, ran by experienced childcarers featuring activities such as poi dancing lessons (a tribal dance native to New Zealand), including a workshop where the children are taught how to make their own poi, face-painting and games. *Shut down Land and Marine - Friday 20th April - all day Land and Marine are responsible for building a 125 mile long gas pipeline through Wales, destroying numerous green spaces and wildlife habitats including the Brecon Beacons, and we have their head offices here in Bath. Resistance to the pipeline has been strong in Wales, so this is a great opportunity to show our opposition, and make sure that Land and Marine know how we feel! The protest is open to everyone, whether you want to leaflet, make music, blockade, perform street theatre or a bit of each! Find out more about Land and Marine at www.risingtide.org.uk/bristol/pipeline *Party against petrol - Saturday 20th of April - meet at 11 at Bath Climate Camp or 12 at bath Abbey. A colourful carnival/protest against fossil fuels and car culture. the party will include music, street theatre and a kids bloc looked after by our childcarer team. One for all the family! Attending the camp does not necessarily mean attending the protests (although the more the merrier!). If you just want to come along and enjoy the atmosphere, learn about eco-living, talk to other greens or take part in the workshops, you are more than welcome. this is also not a local event, so just 'cos you're not from Bath, it doesn't mean you shouldn't come! You can find the camp if you follow Lower Bristol Road until it meets the A4 towards Bristol, and we should be pretty visible! For any questions, or if you would like to be sent posters/leaflets to help us publicise the camp, please e-mail bathclimatecamp@yahoo.co.uk

Solidarity protest outside court in Cardiff today!

Pipeline and G8 solidarity protest outside court in Cardiff today as authorities attempt to evict Brecon anti-pipe tree camp.

Protesters against the monstrous pipeline plowing its way through Wales are in court tomorrow as authorities attempt to evict the 5 month old tree camp in Brecon National Park. This is just one example of how the state is fueling climate change and preventing us from protesting about it. Governments all over the world behave similarly and this week the 8 biggest leaders (G8) are meeting in Germany to make more decisions that will impose on our lives. Whilst many of our friends are in Germany protesting against this undemocratic, centralised source of power we will be protesting outside the court against all governments intruding in our lives and the environment, both locally and globally.

Be at Cardiff Civil Justice Centre, 2 Park Street at 10.30am

In solidarity with our friends in trees and on the blockades.

Brecon open day - Saturday 9th June.

To oppose National Grid's 197 Mile long, 48 inches wide, 94 bar pressure gas pipe that is running through the Brecon Beacon National Park there has been a protest site set up along the route, this is currently preventing National Grid causing more destruction in this area. Having the camp is delaying work which will cost them millions of pounds and gives us time to work on stopping them indefinitely. It's also fun, educational and free. Unfortunately the time has come and eviction is due any day now, so...

We invite you to join us on site for our open day on Saturday 9th June:

There will be:
Free Workshops (including Climbing Instruction by our qualified instructor)
Free Food (suitable for Vegans)
Information and display board about this pipeline
Free Accommodation (if you want to stay)
Advise and guidance in protesting
Fun, frolics and friendship!

This is the perfect way to learn more about why we are protesting this pipeline, what can be done about it and to experience life on a protest site.

The Brecon Camp is located about 5 miles from Brecon Town Centre, in the National Park on the A40 (West of Brecon). It is opposite Penpoint Church and is obviously marked with banners. Parking is available in front of the camp, or a bus goes along the road every two hours and will stop outside, or hitching is usually possible. If you want to come down but have difficultly with transport, email us, we might be able to help you.

For more information check: http://www.fightthepipe.co.uk or email us at fightthepipe@hotmail.co.uk

UPDATE:

There is now a mailing list to send out info on events, actions and new information. Send a message to our myspace with your email address and we will add you.

There is an online petition against the compulsory purchase of Cefn Drum common by National Grid for the LNG pipeline please sign it! http://www.petitiononline.com/cefn1282/petition.html

A news article has been written looking into the worrying effect of the increased amount earthquakes on the pipeline. National Grid defend themselves by saying “We would not construct the pipeline if we didn’t think it was safe for people in the vicinity.” Yet now attention has been drawn to this problem National Grid have to re-evaluate to see if all risks have been properly assessed. Read more http://icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0200wales/tm_headline=quake-fears-over-pipeline-&method=full&objectid=19054721&siteid=50082-name_page.html

Nacap Land and Marine are wanting to hydrostatically test the pipes by pumping gallons of our river water through them. This year is expected to be the hottest yet and water will be a limited resource.

Two gas pipe workers have been injured on site see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_west/6623989.stm

There is a Climate change carnival in Manchester on June 30th. There will be a pipeline info stall there. Please go and show support if you can.

There is now an action group in Gloucester set up against the LNG pipeline. Please contact us through our myspace for more details. We will be at 2000 trees festival in Cheltenham and we are putting on a benefit gig on June 15th, details to follow!

Cheers :-) Love the Fight the Pipe crew xxx
