InfluencesMusical influences: old hardcore, old metal, and classic rock- including but not limited to: Last Rights, Negative FX, Thor, Manowar, Rancid Decay, Bitch, Rock Goddess, Terrorizer, Sacrilege, Holocaust, Repulsion, English Dogs, Motorhead, Metal Church, Montrose, Fleetwood Mac, Pat Benatar, Scorpions.

Other influences include: NYC, hard livin', near death experiences, violent dreams, and all the filth that crosses our paths.

And though we are pretty mellow hippies at heart who just happen to play raging music we are also influenced by the following three letters: F.T.W.

Sounds Like

Hit and run thrash assault.

"They only played for ten minutes." - Debbie Harry

"NY hardcore pre-1987, before the youth crew came to town and washed all the fun away. Think The Comes, Anti-Scrunti Faction, Sin 34 or any other awesome female-fronted hardcore band from the mid 80's. Currently playing 11 minute sets!"- Troubleman Unlimited.

"Smart metal this is not. But if you're into smart metal, maybe you're missing the point. You would definitely be missing the boat Battletorn has commandeered, a scarred vessel equipped with harpoon guns and a rack of Celtic Frost and D.R.I. tapes. All they ask is that you have a drink, bang heads with a few friends and put your balls to the wall-theirs are already firmly attached." - Village Voice ..

   About Battletorn
Battletorn formed in February of 2004, as a trio of William (skins), Omid (axe), and Beverly (vox). We played our first show after only one practice. Lasting 5 minutes, some likened the experience to premature ejaculation. We recorded 2 singles and the "Evil Chains" LP with that line-up. After raging around Brooklyn and touring the states, the trio lineup was no longer as of November 2005.

A two piece Battletorn (William: drums , Omid: guitar/vox) thrashed on into the night. Before the dust even settled, we toured the UK in spring of 2006 with KAMIKAZEE, it was a ripping good time! Then we toured down south with TRIAC, which was also a blast. In the fall of 2006 the dudes went into a cave and wrote a new album, recorded it in December... and "Terminal Dawn" was released on Mad At The World Records in April 2007. The "Terminal Tour" of the US followed in April-May 2007, with the duo clocking 10,000 miles in a Ford Taurus in a circle around the country.

In June of 2007, BATTLETORN became a 'two city band', with one member in Brooklyn and the other in Nashville. A tour of Japan came together for March 2008 thanks to the great MGT from Japan (and MARUBULLMEN too)! We played 6 shows over there and released a split tour 45 entitled "No Mercy Attack!" with MGT that was limited to 200 copies and on Outlaw Recordings. The tour was all we'd hoped and more! We got to play with some killer bands, meet lots of good people, and eat some great meals! Japan is a very unique and beautiful country, and we were grateful to have the opportunity to play there.

A new LP titled "Reflect The Filth" was recorded at the end of December 2008, set for release in early 2009. It will have one side of new studio material, and one side will be the live set from the last show we played in Tokyo! Cover art is shown below, and it will be a three way joint release by: Mad At The World Records (NYC), Challenge The Throne Records (CA), and Grrman Records (UK). There were also three tracks recorded for a split single with DOUBLE NEGATIVE that was released on Volcom Entertainment's singles club in May of 2009.

On the train ride home from the studio after recording these new tunes the decision was made to have these be Battletorn's last releases. We are going to tour in 2009 to support the new LP, and from there on out we will do live appearances when we can, but there will be no more Battletorn releases. We have been going for five years and are proud of the things we've done, so we figured it's as good a time as any to call it a day on the recording/releases front. There are three LPs, three singles, a couple splits, some misc comps and cassette releases... so yeah, that's that.

We went to the UK again in May 2009 to do the "Spitting Venom" tour with a great band THROATS, it was awesome! THROATS are a shredding hardcore band from the UK, check them out on Holy Roar Records. We hope to do some more shows to support the "Reflect the Filth" LP later this year.

It's been a great ride, and it's not over just yet..............

Thanks for your support.

SHIRTS: we generally only make shirts for tours, but sometimes there's a couple extra left over after a tour- so check in with us. If you order one before a tour we can make it for you when we screen shirts. Someday maybe we'll just have 'regular' shirts for merch, but for now we're a tour shirt only operation.

prices don't include postage, that will be a couple bux extra in the US, a little more for overseas. Send a message about what you want, we'll get you a total, and can take paypal if you have it. Thanks.

..COMPLETE DISCOGRAPHY:..

"Peace of the Grave" 45 (Electric Bible Records - 2005): an acetate 45 limited to 60 handmade and numbered copies, features the first recordings of the band on one side and a cover of HOLOCAUST "Heavy Metal Mania" on the b-side.

"Villains/Reversed" 45 (MegaBlade Records - 2005): a one sided single clocking in at about 1:30 with what was supposed to be an etched b-side, the etching came out pretty weird looking because the label fucked up and had black labels put on it. Supposedly limited to 300, but there were probably at least 500 made.

"Wild, Blind, and Screaming" Tour CD (No Label - 2005): This was a tour CD we made up to sell on our first full US tour in summer of 2005 because we only had the "Villains" single out at that point. It features 7 songs of the "Evil Chains" LP along with the HOLOCAUST cover song mentioned above. There were 200 copies made and we hand cut and assembled them into jewel cases while out on the road in the hot van.

"Evil Chains" LP/CD (MegaBlade Records - 2005): The debut full length LP, 18 songs clocking in at 14 minutes. Came out on both LP and CD at same time, LP has a two sided insert with photo collage on one side, CD booklet has same collage but photos are very small!

"Burn Fast" 45 (Mad At The World Records - 2006): The first release with the 'two man wrecking crew' line-up with Omid taking over on vocals. There were 300 of these pressed on white vinyl and 700 on black I believe. Six songs, comes with an insert.

"Burn Fast" Tour CD (No Label - 2006): We wanted a CD with material of the new lineup available on our UK tour in Spring of 2006, so we put these together. It features 8 songs from the "Burn Fast" sessions, two of which were kept off the single so they could be featured on a comp 45 (I think it was called "Wasted Potential") that some label was supposed to put out but never did. We made 100 of these, all hand cut and assembled into plastic CD sleeves.

"Thrash War 2006" Split Tour Cassette (Feast of Tentacles - 2006): This was a split released to commemorate the UK tour and features Battletorn along with KAMIKAZEE who were the band we toured with over there. I think they took three songs from the "Burn Fast" sessions to use on this, and there were only 100 of them made.

"Terminal Dawn" LP (Mad At The World Records - 2007): The first full length with two piece line up, featured 16 songs at just under 13 minutes. Limited to 500 copies in a gatefold sleeve with an insert.

"Terminal Dawn/Burn Fast" CD (Mad At The World Records - 2008): We put together a CD version of the "Terminal Dawn" CD and it has the "Burn Fast" tracks on it as a bonus. The "Burn Fast" tracks have a slightly different mix and vocal track to bring it up to speed with the "Terminal Dawn" sessions. This CD has 22 songs at 17 minutes. Limited to 500 copies.

"No Mercy Attack!" split 45 (Outlaw Recordings - 2008): A split tour 45 released to commemorate the Japanese tour in 2008. Features three Battletorn songs unique to this release that were recorded by Mike Hill (from the band TOMBS) in our practice space. There were only 200 numbered copies of this, all in hand cut and assembled sleeves- most of which went to Japan and were sold on the tour.

"Reflect The Filth" LP (Mad At The World/Challenge The Throne/Grrman Records - 2009): The final full length LP, features 8 new studio songs on side one, and a 14 song live set from Tokyo on the b-side. Limited to 500 numbered copies in and comes with an insert.

"Split with DOUBLE NEGATIVE" split 45 (Volcom Singles Club - 2009): The final nail in the Battletorn coffin, a split single with DOUBLE NEGATIVE who are from NC and rule. Limited to 500 numbered copies in and comes with an insert.

COMPILATION APPEARANCES: We have appeared on a few compilations too, I will have to compile a list of these sometime too. From my memory they included: VICE sampler CD, "Under the Covers" CDR, "US Speed Metal Death" cassette compilation, and there were a few more that we agreed to be on that may or may not have ever come out.
