James's Interests
|
| General | I have too many hobbies and interests to count. High on the list are gardening, singing, learning languages, messing about with computers, and biking, paddling and hiking the great outdoors. I also like to read and write on my real blog (http://www.scottcorner.org). | | Music | I love all things vocal, whether it's the Boston lead screaming out some classics or a Swedish soprano floating on top of the scale. I sing in a chamber choir and think singers are awesome. I also play piano, but only well enough to sing along. | | Movies | Not a big movie fan, though I enjoy them on a dull winter weekend. I've always liked "Bon Voyage Charlie Brown". Au secours! | | Television | Since about age 16 I have had an abiding vomit reflex whenever I'm around TV programming. We own a 13" TV but it doesn't play anything but movies. I think watching TV is akin to scooping out your brain with a spoon and putting it in the microwave on high for 10 minutes. It's a great way to kill any creativity, ambition, or intellectual discipline you might still have after making your way through the minefield of modern technology. | | Books | Where to begin.... I really like symbolism and wordcraft in what I read. Favorite authors are William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, and Cormac McCarthy. Just about anything that makes me think or feel exactly what the author wants me to think or feel, without feeling pushy. | | Heroes | I find it difficult to attach myself to heroes. People are people, and we're all capable of great things and debased things depending on our environment and choices. |

James's Blurbs |
About me:
I grew up in a family of eight kids in the Pacific Northwest. I've lived in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Kansas, and Russia and love to travel. During the last fifteen years I've evolved from an unstable introvert to a stable introvert (but I like to talk to people now, that's a plus). I am fascinated by human behavior and spend a lot of my brain's processing power on trying to figure out why we do what we do. I read and write a lot, which helps me make sense of the world. I'm also very involved in the outdoors (biking, hiking, kayaking mostly) and in my garden, where I find peace in facilitating the constant birth, death and rebirth of countless vegetative entities.

Who I'd like to meet:
... someone who shares my passion for dissecting the world and humanity's role in the world, and who can understand what I'm talking about when I launch into some conversation about the purpose of life. These people are few and far between in North Idaho.
