Genealogy | | Music | Classical (and pretty much only that, sorry...)
Oh well, not entirely true: I like Edith Piaf, and Simon & Garfunkel.
Back to classical: I'm a big Joshua Bell fan. He's amazing. | | Television | News (but not from Fox, thank you!). Charlie Rose on PBS. | | Books | Very little time to read, but I like modern fiction. Books I found great in the last couple of years:
- The Swimming Pool Library (Allan Hollinghurst)
- The Line of Beauty (ditto)
- The Religion War (Scott Adams)
| | Heroes | My father died in 1982, so a long time ago, and perhaps I'm idealizing him, but he gave me my work ethic, and he did things I don't think I'd ever be able to do. He was in the French underground during WW2, blowing up train tracks and utility lines (and, toward the end, a factory that repaired German military equipment). By April 1944, the French police (which was cooperating with the Germans) had his name and his friends' names. If the Allied troops hadn't landed in Normandy two months later and given the Germans and the collaborators other things to worry about, he's probably have been arrested soon afterwards, tortured and killed, and I wouldn't be here. |

Claude's Blurbs |
About me:
I was born and raised in France, and have lived in the US for 20 years (Texas and California several times, then Massachusetts). I moved back to Houston in 2007.
I'm 57+, but lucky to look less (I have all my hair, dark brown).
I'm gay, in a long-term relationship (25 years and counting). We got married (because it's allowed in Massachusetts, where I was living then) in July 2005, but my husband spends most of his time in Austin, Texas, where we've lived on and off.
I work on Information Technology and Knowledge Management strategies, as an independent consultant since May 2009.
I am a very committed friend: my friendships are not superficial, even with people I don't see very often (I have friends in California, in Paris, in Boston, in Japan, and a number of others who have scattered elsewhere around the world).
I am on the Board of Stanford Pride, the university's Gay & Lesbian alumni club, and this has been one of the things that gives me a sense of community and purpose, and allowed me to meet a number of great people.
|
Who I'd like to meet:
People who are smart, funny, not full of themselves, loyal to their friends, interested in some of the same things I am, and who want to spend some time just being together. People who're not spooked by just two people enjoying each other's presence without saying anything for a while.
I am usually much more "in tune" with people quite a bit younger than me than with people my age, and most of my friends are in the 25-35 range. I usually find the 40+ group boring or too opinionated. If you're the happy exception, then let me know.
