The Orphanage have just released their first recording - The Josephine EP. It's being sold only at shows in a limited edition run of 150.
Tom's sophomore album, Roadside Crosses, was released in Melbourne on the 27th November 2008. It's due for national release in Feb 2009.
For now, it's available for purchase at Polyester Records, on Brunswick St, Fitzroy.
And The Last Record Store, on Smith Street, Collingwood.
The first release on the Bayonet Records label is out: "Blue Day Requiem" by Melbourne based artist Tom Woodward. It is a rugged, rocky ride into the wilderness of a dead man's imagination. It is available in all good record stores in Australia & New Zealand. Distributed by Creative Vibes.
"It [Blue Day Requiem] matches, if not betters, many high rotation "star" performers currently being heard on the radio daily both here and overseas."

Sounds Like
"[Tom Woodward &] The Orphanage is tense, gritty and dark - Woodward has a propensity to tell dirty stories in his lyrics - yet he band does not shy away from grand arrangements. Strangely enough, the sound bears a similarity to The Boys Next Door. Other suitable comparisons might include The Handsome Family, but the tribal rhythm suggests something more like Sons and Daughters. Yet, armed with both violin and organ, The Orphanage manages to capture a meatier sound than the Glaswegians.
Thomas Battersby, BEAT Magazine
"Blue Day Requiem is heart-on-sleeve music for the spiritually battered, and whereas it might not be the most uplifting record, it's sometimes enough to know that when you're down at heel, there'll be someone there to keep you company."
- RICHARD STOKOE, LOSINGTODAY.COM
"Tom Woodward slides into his set without introduction – appropriate really, given his music speaks for itself. His vocals a cross between Glenn Richards, Dylan and Gareth Liddiard, Tom's alt. country social commentary and observations of love put me in mind of a less saccharine Josh Pyke, and in all he's brilliant, particularly on A Little Tear For You."
- RAVE MAGAZINE
"Like a breath of fresh air being blown through a whiskey soaked cigar, [Tom Woodward's] words are a wake up call, not coated in fancy trimmings or novelty, but instead doused in realism and truth - then set alight."
- SCENE MAGAZINE
"Lyrics are the fundamental key to the folky / bluesy / storytelling genre in which Woodward operates, and in this regard, he is streets ahead of many of his contemporaries. Expect great things!"
- BEAT MAGAZINE
"This recording shows Woodward's maturity and development as a songwriter, showcasing his talents in a diverse and inspiring collection of work. It matches, if not betters, many high rotation "star" performers currently being heard on the radio daily both here and overseas."
- CANBERRA REVIEW
Founded in 2007, Bayonet Records distributes and records artists who stand out for their individuality and force of character. We believe that music should be fierce, gentle and holy - but bad enough to drive a saint to drink.
We also like to think we book gigs for other bands, but that's still a work in progress. If you would like to help us get off our arses and do more work, you should not contact us because we like music and drinking, playing gigs and booking shows, not exercise...

We play instrumental music with rock-, folk-, metal-, prog-, ambient- and
soundtrack-influences and with lots of melody…
First reactions:
...the best instrumental piece of music in years
...some melodies are so beautiful and stirring that at certain parts I really
had tears in my eyes!
...A COSMIC TRAIL really created something new which can’t be compared to
anything else on the market - give it a try!
...Normally I’m not that much into instrumental stuff but THE OUTER PLANES
simply blew me away!
Our debut album “The Outer Planes” is available NOW.
Would be nice if you'd have a listen. THX for your time!
