Jonno Frishberg and Bo Ledet lead a talent-packed lineup of New Orleans area musicians who specialize in regional and original music. When you hear their unique groove, your head will turn and your feet will move.
Performing regularly in New Orleans over the last four years, Bayou DeVille has developed an organic, rural-meets-urban sound steeped in tradition yet totally fresh. They are equally at home on the concert stage or in the dancehall. Nominated for Best Cajun Band by the Gambit Weekly, the band has performed at French Quarter Fest and Swamp Fest, and holds steady gigs in New Orleans live music venues, including Mid City Lanes Rock-n-Bowl and Mulates.
Although the group can play traditional Cajun dances, they forged a sound while on Bourbon Street (using piano and electric guitar) which explores a wide variety of music styles with a New Orleans feel. They are truly a product of their environment, and passionate about the music they play.
Bayou Deville has been active in fundraising for relief efforts (Common Ground, Emergency Communities, Project Heal), and has performed for students all over the state. Jonno and Bo have worked together for over a decade, and a previous version of the band opened for Bob Dylan at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum (a hurricane benefit). They also tour and record with Charivari (Rounder Records), and have performed at Jazz Fest, Philly Folk Fest, Kennedy Center, and other prominent national venues.
Jonno’s compositions have been set to ballet in New Orleans and featured in documentaries at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Bayou DeVille appeared on Good Morning America for the Saint’s return to the Superdome last October.
Recently , Jonno's son Colin Frishberg and Eva Frishberg have joined the band playing bass(Colin) and rythem guitar(eva).
Because of the inspiration of bands like yours and after our attendance at the Balfa camp this year, we are incorporating some Cajun flavors into our set. Maggie just wrote and posted a feminist themed waltz accompanied by Johnny on the accordion. We would appreciate any feedback that you might have to offer.
