  • Bio

Swedish roots, a unique set of instruments and wide-open interest in other cultures. This groundbreaking trio has over the last few years done tours, festival performances and musical collaborations in Denmark, Norway, Spain, Iran, England, Belgium, Switzerland, America, Mexico etc. Their latest CD - Lost was released in 2009. Previously they have released three studio productions - Nysch (2004) was nominated for a Grammis in Sweden and won the Danish Music Awards as best foreign folk-album, Tripfolk (2000) and Nordic City (1998 – nominated for Grammis), and one live recording - Live (2003). Fascinated listeners and audiences all over the world have very well received all of these productions... Bazar Blå is one of the leading bands on the new folkmusic-scene in sweden. Their original compositions are clearly influenced by swedish traditions and heritage but always with a very modern touch of rhythms and soundscapes. Coming from different musical backgrounds each member brings very individual experiences to the band. This specific blend of personalities, repertoire and fantastic musicianship is what gives their music its unmistakeable character. With percussion – from darbouka to kanjira via wooden-box – nyckelharpa (a medieval swedish folk instrument) and bass-guitars there are many ways to travel with Bazar Blå. The result is a distinctly new folk-music which the trio calls Transglobal Tripfolk - Music inspired by traditions from all over the world with the ambition to invite you as a listener on a trip through time and space.

“Our urge to evolve, as musicians and as a group, makes us open for any ideas that promote new ways of expressing ourselves musically. It is not always a conscious search – very often something simple and unexpected like a few nice sounding notes, a strange drum or a new way to use the bow can trigger the imagination. The sounds of a minaret-singer in Teheran, elevator-music in a Stockholm hotel, a squeaky radio in a taxi in Bombay or serious studies in playing techniques or cultural traditions, all in their own way, add to our musical evolution. It is much like ants constructing their hill. You happen to pass by a straw, you like it and bring it home to see where – and how – it fits.” -Bazar Blå

  • David Franks: Walkabout…

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on MySpace...

Poem cum song 5 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (see my Blog for details):
    STATE TO STATE

    (TUNE:

    C F G F
    C F G F
    C F G F
    C F G F
    F G F C
    F G F C
    F G F C
    C F F F)

    From Sydney Town,
        In uni. break,
    I drove out west
        To earnings make
    Onion picking,
        On the fields
    Of Echuca,
        That year’s yields.

    After day’s work,
        From Y.H.A.,
    A group of us
        Would not delay
    To walk on down
        To the dirt rim
    Of the Murray,
        For a cool swim.

    On one such day,
        I do declare,
    Some three of us
        Had a big dare
    To swim across,
        From state to state,
    The wide Murray -
        I took the bait.

    Yes, foolishly,
        I took the bait -
    A choice that I
        Would come to hate,
    For I almost
        Did drown that date,
    Making the swim
        From state to state.

Hej!
