I don't exactly know what to say about Bernie's passing.
His awesome guitar playing was second only to his humble heart. I used to drop in on him, his mom would roust him out of bed and he'd play that guitar. We'd talk and head out to Fat Boys for one of them greasy burgers. Although 'we didn't know anybody', we had the best of times.
And the best quasi I ever saw... haha.
This world will miss you, Bernie.... your talent, sure... but your heart, for extra sure.
You will be missed and I'm sure 'you figured it out'...
Love ya man and God be with you...
David

Bernie Brausewetter was a profound influence on my life.
I first became aware of him over 31 years ago when he was playing with Doug Rykin And Midnight, first I saw him play at my old high school, then in clubs over the next few years. I'll never forget how he used to RUN through the Goose And The Gander on Rt. 22, having a wireless transmitter on his guitar to elimate the restrictive cable!

I remember being afraid to approach him for fear that he'd be this nasty, ego-fied character, but eventually, I worked up the courage to approach him and found out that he was the nicest, most affable guy you could ever hope to meet.
Later, I started repairing and refretting guitars for him, and from late 1990 until mid 2000 I was the bass player for B.B. And The Stingers.
What a learning experience that was, musically and in life...I learned so much from Bernie (and Mike Carroll/Bob Butterfield) without taking a lesson, I had to just to keep up!
He was the consummate professional, never forgetting to remind partons to please tip the bartenders, a small but often forgotten courtesy, very much appreciated by bartenders!
He always booked the gigs, (putting up flyers a week before) supplied the PA system, etc., and ALWAYS divided the pay equally among band members, never taking a bigger cut for himself. (Which would've been quite justifiable!)

Besides guitars, I had other stuff in common with Bernie. We both shared a love of cheesey old Chiller Theater monster films like The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms and The Giant Behemoth, It The Terror from Outer Space, etc.

He used to go into a trance like transcendent state when he soloed, I'd look over at him and he'd have one eye closed, the other rolled back into his head like a voodooo high priest or something...tapping into some higher state of mind or Kosmic Konsciousness. The Edgar Cayce of the guitar...
A truly rare individual, incredibly gifted, yet so down to earth and humble with an great w

I'm so very sad to hear of Bernie's death. I last spoke with him at the Brookdale guitar show. He was truly a gentle and kind, great guy. Of course, we all know he was an amazing guitar player. I'm grateful that I got to play music with him. He was a very gracious and generous musician. I will miss hearing him play and I will miss him...

I worked with Bernie for about five years in Attaboy and can truly say it was the most cohesive collaboration that I had ever experienced. Bernie was devoid of ego when it came to working on new material, all ideas were considered valid. Attaboy was a great experience for me and it was with regret that the time came for everyone to move on. Bernie moved on to the music that lived in his heart and what inspirational music it was. Bernie was a dear friend who will live on with me through his playing and music. I'm thankful to the Lord I was able to spend the last moments of his life together. He will be forever missed in my heart.

He and his great band gave us some of the most memorable nights of music ever at the old T.J.s Hideaway in South Plainfield. There are now three great Strat players in heaven. God bless you, Bernie.

Dear Bernie: I am always going to hear your howling rendition of "The Little Drummer Boy" in my head...and remember swinging my legs sitting next to you on the side of the stage at the Stone Pony. Thanks to Big Nancy for bringing me in to sing with Supreme Court, else I would not have had the opportunity to work with you the little bit that I did. What a sweetheart. We all miss you, but know you are in a better place.

To Bernie's family & friends

Jersey has lost one of its great blues players. We'll all miss Bernie's fine music. The day he left this earth, with all the rain that came down, the sky truly was crying.

Please accept my deepest condolences in your time of loss.

Peace . . .
