Remembrances.........
"Mr. Bourne and I would talk from time to time at cultural events in Los Angeles about curating a retrospective of his film work on the west coast that would possibly travel to colleges and various cultural institutions in the US and abroad. Thank you St. Clair Bourne for sharing your time, talent and gifts with me and the world community at large." --Charles Reese, Performing Artist/Cultural Curator/Producer
"Please join me in singing praises of joy and thanks for a life well lived and a legacy of work that shall be with us forever... Thank you St. Clair." --C. Sade Turnipseed, FESPACO
"It was because of him that I joined BADWest and had the opportunity to meet several brilliant filmmakers and partake on life changing journeys in the last few years. I will always have great gratitude and respect for St. Clair. God Bless him and his family." --Dominique Phelps, Assistant to Lee Daniels (Director, Producer)
"We have lost a great pioneer and mentor. The Black Documentary Collective stands as but one of his visionary legacies for media-makers of color striving to tell their REAL stories." --Edwin Pagan, NALIP
"He was a Rock, a Tree, a True Race Man, and of course A Great and inspiring Filmmaker. His independence in filmmaking, action and thought was a beacon for us all. We will all miss him. His work lives on through his films, and those, like me, that he pushed, prodded, and inspired to be better artists and humans. He will live on through the fire. May he rest in peace.
--Stanley Nelson, Documentary Director and Founder of Firelight Media
" I feel like I learned something from him whenever we spoke. It's hard to believe that those meetings have come to an end. Our community has suffered a terrible loss in his passing. May we honor him by continuing to do the work, and supporting each other in that effort."
--Sabrina Gordon, Filmmaker and Editor "Hip-Hop:Beyond Beats and Rhymes"
"This is a tremendous loss to the independent documentary filmmaking community, and to the world. St. Clair has been very helpful and supportive to me in the past, and gave me great advice during the early fundraising stage of Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes. I wish St. Clair a peaceful transition. He will live forever through his work and his contribution to society.
--Byron Hurt, Director, "Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes"
“Saint’s energy and spirit will continue to live through his work and the work of each of us who’s hearts and minds he touched and inspired over the years. I only hope we can all live up to the expectations he had for himself and that he generously passed along to others through his significant and abundant deeds.”
---Michelle Materre, Independent Film Media Consultant and Media Studies and Film Faculty Member, New School For Social Research in New York City
"The word magnanimous stands out to me right now. It defines St. Clair Bourne as a ?noble and generous in spirit; a greathearted general. St. Clair Bourne was as big a presence in the documentary film world as he was physically. I received a lot of tough talk from him?in respect to my own filmmaking and my work with our Black Documentary Collective programs. Of his expansive and impressive career, I thought one of his smartest productions was to bring us together as a collective. The looming national consciousness that has categorized Black Americans as functioning ?flailing ?as the divided and conquered has lasted too many years. We are a Collective. We are connected in our mission to tell our stories and rewrite American history. I have much respect for the man and the mission."
--Nicole Franklin, Filmmaker
"So many have spoken to honor Saint. I can only say
that he will be missed greatly and that his selfless
quality as a filmmaker and a man is something we all
need to be guided by. May his spirit soar!"
---Regge Life

SUPPORT OUR MEMBER AND PARTNER EVENTS

WHAT IT IS
The Media Coalition of Artists of Color is a vehicle for cooperative and collaborative efforts by media organizations of color based on their shared mission of empowerment and opportunity in film, television, and new media.
HOW IT WORKS:
Following the talk with the Guest Speaker, members are invited to present their "digital portfolios" showcasing their work as actors, writers, directors, editors, cinematographers, music composers, or other industry capacities. These portfolios must not exceed 3 each minutes and must be submitted in advance to the Coalition organization to which you belong. Or, you can present your submission on VHS or DVD to the organization of which you are a member for a Focus Group Screening of your works in progress. This event is NOT an exhibition series. Our objective is to connect filmmakers with buyers, employers, and each other.
Admission to the event is free but you must be a member of one of the coalition organizations to attend. Join the Black Documentary Collective and you'll automatically have attending privileges to the Media Coaltion Salon Meetings.
