This page is a tribute to the most amazing musical experience ever to have been conceived. It is not run by any of the members of the band so don't bother asking. I am merely a fan that refuses to let the Bed Destroyers legacy die and feel that the world must know about the music that was created during their short lived career. You can also check out the video for "The Roil of Quantum Foam" in the videos section.
"Walker and Leavell may be best known for crooning poppy-punk ballads on the First Coast. But these talented musicians want to mix things up a bit, and arent afraid to show their fans an unexpected side of themselves. Bed Destroyers, a project Walker named after a flagrant sexual rendezvous from his past, is an eclectic melting pot of different musical genres and styles. Walker immerses himself in whatever music he listens to, never skipping a beat on the path to self-reconstruction.
Bed Destroyers run the pop culture gamut in their songs, discussing topics as recognizable as depression and concepts as abstract as literary allusion. Walker and Leavell never stick to one forum or sound, sliding back and forth between rock, pop, folk and hip-hop without a misstep. Walker uses sample beats, a microsynth, and guitars to facilitate this stream-of-consciousness approach to singer/songwriting. Both Walker and Leavell see the project as a means of extreme self-expression.
"This is a product of boredom," says Walker. "Its like a journal in music."
But Walker is, most recognizably, an unforgettable vocalist. The man who surpasses six feet in height has lungs that might put Whitney Houston to shame: Walker can belt out those high notes with ease. It's so easy for Walker to attain these impossible octaves that sometimes its hard to believe that its a man singing at all. Walker sounds as if he strains to sing in a normal pitch, always reverting back to his harmonious and beautifully melodic roots.
Walker says he has been influenced by bands from all over the spectrum. The Postal Service, Radiohead, Blink 182 and G-Unit are only a few of the notable sources Walker credits for his inspiration, all of which fuel the unusual aural sensation that is Bed Destroyers.
"Bed Destroyers represents an open-mindedness to every type of music," says Walker. "People are so quick to judge music, but they are really just judging an image they associate with it."
This open-minded attitude spills over into everything Walker touches, right down to his bands ironic merchandise and his overtly sexual lyrics. He and Leavell make no bones about their in-your-face material, and are unapologetically satirical and sly.
[Bed Destroyers] continue to push the envelope and typecast boundaries. Walker may have said it best: "Music is like lucky charms; you want to get a bunch of different marshmallows." - Amy Taylor (Entertaining U Newspaper)
