Johnny Russler & the Beach Bum Band combine the tropical sounds of Caribbean rock, reggae, and calypso by pouring great original music along with songs by Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley, Sublime, Jimmy Cliff, Paul Simon, Jerry Jeff Walker, and many more into a musical blender to create a strong concoction direct from the lower latitudes!
From steel pans to strong percussion, driving bass to skanking guitars, the Beach Bum Band has a fun and danceable sound that appeals to all ages.
The band has performed to enthusiastic crowds at venues from Omaha to the Carolinas, from Minnesota to Key West, from community festivals to college campuses to Parrothead gatherings to Alpine Valley, Tweeter Center, Target Center, and Wrigley Field as the pre-show entertainment for Jimmy Buffett concerts, and even on stage several times with Buffett as his backup band.
The Beach Bum Band has performed for the Jimmy Buffett tour as the pre-show entertainment in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin, Tweeter Center in Illinois, Target Center in Minneapolis, Wrigley Field in Illinois. The band has also been invited for repeat appearances at Margaritaville in Key West.
And the Beach Bum Band has performed on stage with Jimmy Buffett ("Jimmy Buffett and the Beach Bum Band!") for his charity appearances in the Eastern U.S. as part of his Cheeseburger in Paradise bar and restaurant openings in 2003, 2004, and 2005. The Beach Bums performed favorites such as "Margaritaville", "Five O'Clock Somewhere", "Fins" and "Volcano" on stage with Buffett himself. The Beach Bum Band has also headlined other Cheeseburger in Paradise openings without Jimmy, and so far the Beach Bum Band, Buffett, and Cheeseburger in Paradise have raised over $360,000 for charity at these events!
The band has a good relationship with the Buffett organization, but the Beach Bum Band is NOT a "Jimmy Buffett tribute band". The band plays enough of the Buffett favorites to make please the Parrothead crowd, but also mixes it up with plenty of other island, warm weather, and beach music to offer variety for everybody!
The Beach Bum Band Band was started by Johnny Russler, whose personality and songwriting chart the course for the band's unique sound and energy. Add the diverse musical backgrounds and years of entertainment experience of the eight to twelve member Beach Bum Band, and you have a recipe for great music and a great evening of fun with your own Beach Party!
