Beachcoma started around 1980, Ian and Jem would get together for a bit of a jam playing some JJ Cale, Dire Straits, and some Shadows tunes, Nigel joined later bringing the sound from a late 1950's Hofner President Bass, and then things went the way of fast moving Surf style of music which then became there very own.
This was the beginning of COMA..... In the early years of the band they used to get together with a friend called Jic (David Speight) on drums, then they heard about this young chap called Dave
(commonly known as Chaz these days) he jumped at the chance to play with them.
Coma then went on and did many gigs in the early 80's, and can claim a large amount of fans, and support.
While recording the Shotgun E P it was the record company who asked the boys to change their name to "BeachComa"
With many radio plays all around the world and in the UK, they were also included on a compilation CD "Hang 11" they really did make their mark on the
"Surf music" scene
When Nigel and Chaz moved to the Highlands of Scotland (not before Nigel did a lot of roadying for bands all over the UK and striking up good friendships with all the artists) the band then evolved into the Surfrats cutting down the full instrumental set with some added vocal standards and original material (not quite the same) but they also had great success
But! the word is, Its BEACHCOMA that can be very well remembered more, mainly for that very sound they can call their own.
Some members of BeachComa are considering a reunion some time please return and check this site for details...If you think that they should "do it again" send your feedback.
When Nigel and Charlie got to the Highlands it did not take long to seek out the music scene and new friendships, including, Country Blues and Beyond, Dreadfull Grate, Dave Flemming, The Pagan Poets, Coinneach, Roddy McKenzie, Martin Stephenson and "David Foster" ex Warriors, Yes, Badger, you can get more info from Davids home page. www.david-foster.co.uk
