Sigur Ros, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Mogwai, Mum, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions in the Sky, M83, Battles, Tool, Orbital etc.
Sounds Like
Post - rock bands like Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky, mixed with the more electronic influences of Warp artists. Its starting to get rather heavy in places, but there are still the twinkly floaty bits, don’t ye worry
LATEST NEWS: December 08' - Well, there is going to be a substantial change to Beaches in the future, here are the details. You might want to sit down. Not because its particularly shocking, I just want you to be comfy.
I have another album finished, that makes album no. 3 and release no. 4 (including the Truth.... EP). I intend to release it in February. The reason being that I am leaving Scotland to go to Australia for a while (I don't know how long). I am taking some music gear and will be working hard to bring Beaches to the world. I am going to move away from the whole album/gigging thing, and intend to move into the world of sountracking. The new album will reflect that, and the music shall move accordingly. There are some written with scores in mind, some with TV background music in mind, some for art videos, some for game music (such as the one playing now, which is a little preview), etc. So it won't be like Tests, as in a properly structured album, it'll be more of a collection of pieces that I'll try to get people to use for various purposes.
The album will be released online, and it will be a free download, as a sort of a launch for the new beaches website (www.beachesoftheproud.com) - which is currently under construction, and will be worked on in Oz as well. So check back then and see if its up.
Bio: Beaches of the Proud is an electronica/IDM/Ambient/Downtempo/whateveryouwanttocallit act formed by Dave Webster, who used to be the
Guitarist/Synthist/Vocalist from Glasgow band The Makos, and also plays in another band called Sluts and Bolts. The Beaches experience has been going since 2006, and has involved 2 albums (soon to be 3), an EP, playing great live shows all over Scotland, getting some lovely reviews, and winning King Tuts' Your Sound in 2007. Beaches have now changed tack and is writing music for use in soundtracks, scores and background music. The new album (out Feb 2009) has been written with this in mind. It will be a free download, and is intended for all of YOU to use as you wish, whether it be for art, TV, film, games, whatever. Just make sure you ask for permission before using it (I'll most likely say yes), as I still own the copyright, and that'd make you a pirate. Aaaaar.
All previous releases are available on itunes and on cd, although, being in australia, probably not cd. Best just download it eh?
In the meantime, enjoy the music, download some more if you like, come to a few gigs and be good.
Enjoy.
Dave
Words by various mags/fanzines about Beaches:
"As soaring and celestial as Boards of Canada playing on a balloon ride to Atlantis" - METRO
"You can hear the heart and
passion in the recording, it has a life that most electronica lacks. If folk
noir and antifolk have an instrumental counterpart this is it." - FATEA
"With [Webster's] multi-layered approach, he takes you from crashing, crushing crescendos to subtle, sensitive serenity - music for the mind, music for the moment... a mighty fine outing that shows guts, dedication and innovation" - TOXIC PETE
"This is a highly impressive EP. It's steeped in complexities, excellent song writing but most of all displays a level of humanity that is so often missing from electronic acts. 10/10" - TASTY FANZINE
"The most important element of this EP is that Beaches have kept on their toes, changing things around and avoiding formula-songs to make each of the five tracks appealing in its own right" - THE MAG
"Among the more contemporary and obvious influences like Boards of Canada or Mogwai, you can hear echoes of Durutti Column, at least to these ears. Not only is this refreshing but like Vini Reilly all those years ago in the milieu of punk it is at times inspiring work." - BAD ROBOT

Test 2 is the absolute tits. It's written about me isn't it? Isn't it? It's obviously about my brief flirtation with the music industry and our juxtaposed styles. So fresh. Or it could be about jelly fish, I hear you're a fan of their unique vocal stylings.
Think we made frineds ages ago but, for whatever reason, I'd never heard your music until right now this instant in the present. I love this shit! Beatific, soma for the ears. x
