Sigur Ros, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Mogwai, Mum, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions in the Sky, M83, Battles, Tool, Orbital etc.
Sounds Like
Post - rock bands like Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky, mixed with the more electronic influences of Warp artists. Its starting to get rather heavy in places, but there are still the twinkly floaty bits, don’t ye worry
LATEST NEWS: June 08'. The new album Tests is now out. So that makes 3 releases by my count, the first album "Veils", the EP "The Truth always follows me around" and "Tests". All are available on itunes now. Just search for Beaches of the proud. Alternatively and probably preferrably from your point of view, you can buy them on cd by sending £5 per cd. Send payment to paypal account dave4pool@hotmail.com. Note that "The Truth..." EP is pretty much sold out, so I can't guarantee it'll be available.
All releases will also be available on my new website, coming soon. I'm not totally sure about the timescale, but I imagine it'll be a couple of months away. All kinds of shizzle will be available, and all Beaches songs will be downloadable at various qualities. It'll be on an "honesty box" kind of basis, so you can dowload everything for free if you so wish.
As for the future, you can expect a very different approach from Beaches. Music will still be forthcoming, but it will certainly be a departure from the writing-releasing-promo-live shows cycle, which I become increasingly disenfranchised with. This may be in the form of art collaborations and perhaps the addition of other members. Its unsure just now, but I'm trying to do something different. Thank you for listening. D x
Bio: Beaches of the Proud is an electronica/IDM/Ambient/Downtempo/whateveryouwanttocallit act formed by Dave Webster, who used to be the
Guitarist/Synthist/Vocalist from Glasgow band The Makos. It started off as a side project
from The Makos, containing songs that didn't really fit in with the direction we were going,
and also as a sneaky page to secretly big us up. However it kind of snowballed, and after I
got some great feedback on the music and playing the songs live, I've now turned Beaches
into a regular live act, with (occasional) visuals and everything.
If you've seen/heard of Beaches before, I really recommend you come and see a few live shows, as I work very hard to make each show as "live" as possible, and different to the last one, which involves new songs, different versions of old songs, and new segues. It's mostly improvisation based, so sometimes even I don't totally know whats going to happen. I DO NOT USE COMPUTERS its all done on hardware sequencers etc and live instruments, I just feel its a bit more exciting to see music being created live rather than staring at a laptop screen.
All releases are available on itunes and on cd. Details above.
In the meantime, enjoy the music, download some more if you like, come to a few gigs and be good.
Enjoy.
Dave
Words by various mags/fanzines regarding "The Truth Always Follows me Around EP":
"As soaring and celestial as Boards of Canada playing on a balloon ride to Atlantis" - METRO
"You can hear the heart and
passion in the recording, it has a life that most electronica lacks. If folk
noir and antifolk have an instrumental counterpart this is it." - FATEA
"With [Webster's] multi-layered approach, he takes you from crashing, crushing crescendos to subtle, sensitive serenity - music for the mind, music for the moment... a mighty fine outing that shows guts, dedication and innovation" - TOXIC PETE
"This is a highly impressive EP. It's steeped in complexities, excellent song writing but most of all displays a level of humanity that is so often missing from electronic acts. 10/10" - TASTY FANZINE
"The most important element of this EP is that Beaches have kept on their toes, changing things around and avoiding formula-songs to make each of the five tracks appealing in its own right" - THE MAG
"Among the more contemporary and obvious influences like Boards of Canada or Mogwai, you can hear echoes of Durutti Column, at least to these ears. Not only is this refreshing but like Vini Reilly all those years ago in the milieu of punk it is at times inspiring work." - BAD ROBOT

Hi everybody, We've finally moved the repair workshop from Jamaica Street to Otago Street in Glasgow's West End. We'll be open for business again on the 21st of June. Check the website for more details. Thanks for all the support,
Test 2 is the absolute tits. It's written about me isn't it? Isn't it? It's obviously about my brief flirtation with the music industry and our juxtaposed styles. So fresh. Or it could be about jelly fish, I hear you're a fan of their unique vocal stylings.
Think we made frineds ages ago but, for whatever reason, I'd never heard your music until right now this instant in the present. I love this shit! Beatific, soma for the ears. x

Howdy Dave Hope you are all good. I thought I'd pop across and cordially invite you over to my re-launch. (Hope you don't mind the shameless plug.) I've overhauled my space. Yo buddy thought id check in with my yearly myspace message finally started putting pics on my site ....who knows this time next year there could be background images and music who knows???
Now, about this video.... I want in it. Just think, I could be the face of Beaches, just like that guy off the incubus albums.
Yes, I can see you grinning and nodding while mumbling "he's a genius". Off you pop then. And I want Eva Mendes in it too. And Patrick Duffy. Ooh, and that guy who played Reece in Terminator 1 and the commader in Aliens, and also the SEAL commander in The Rock. Michael Beihn.
Slick new ages licks! Love the chord changes in "Cursed by the City". Subtle and sublime self similarity. "Long shadows in an..." has all the sensibilities of Cul de Sac vs Mogwai. Great to Mogwai in yer influences... 54's percusive intro rolls into echo-elations of stuttering melodic hight. Definately our favorite! "Lebanon and off" reminds me of a softer, more chilled take of "Telaphasic Workshop". Really enjoyed listening... Keep up the good work! K
Hey there. Maybe see you at our next gig on the 8th in Edinburgh – see our page for details. Looking forward to your album launch night. Bill and Nick.
Having an awesomegasm right now. The sounds are really good, though I was surprised not to find 65daysofstatic in your influences. Thanks for the add, maybe you'll come down to the warm and weak south some time soon.
Wow! Look at all these people who dig the phat beach sound!
Your music truly is like a beach, it gets everywhere that you didnt know it could, and it feels all funny between your toes when you squish it. But there's no downside of the accidental used-condom-touch.
I was thinking, is that little doggy in the photo one of the Bitches of the Proud? Geddit?? Female dog...
Thank you for the add, your music is the most exciting stuff I have heard for ages, I absolutely love it. It is excellently produced as well. Top notch!
