    Beach Poet!'s Interests
GeneralWhen I was 9 years old, my best friend and I saved our $ for weeks to get a Real China Tea Party Set. When we went to buy it, we discovered we were 10 cents short because we hadn't allowed for tax. There was a lady in line ahead of us who gave us the 10 cents, and as she gave it to us, she said "Someday you will have an opportunity to help someone else. Maybe it will be with a dime or maybe it will be some other way. The way you can repay me is by sharing with others." I'm interested in ying/yang: sharing positive, creative, soul-filled energy with kindred spirits who will share altruistically with the ultimate goal of making the world a better, more peaceful and loving place.
MusicBring it on! I love music! Every play I've written includes music - either words penned by me or my composers. Blues, gospel, jazz, boogie-woogie, classical, rock-n-roll, punk, swing, hip-hop, ....
MoviesLove film, have made award-winning films myself. Favorites include: White Oleander, the Piano, The Truman Show, Being John Malkovich, Titanic, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Rocky Horror Picture Show and Sherman's March to name a few.
TelevisionDon't watch it.

BooksI'm a voracious reader! the tip of the iceberg includes: Mists of Avalon, all the Harry Potter books, plays by Shakespeare, fiction by Anne Proulx, any work by Seamus Heany, Charles Bukowski, Frank McCourt, Jack Kerouac and Niki Giovani.
HeroesMother Theresa, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., JFK, Anne Sexton, Langston Hughes, Susan B. Anthony, Nelson Mandela, Niki Giovanni, Lillian Hellman, Dashiell Hammet, St. Vincent DePaul, the Madonna, and the Dalai Lama, Ian Thomas Garner MacKaye, Ed Tempelton and the CEO of the Universe.

About me:
*** "Myspace Layouts"> This is the true joy of life – the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one, the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. George Bernard Shaw The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can’t find them, make them. George Bernard Shaw

Beach Poetry is a unique performance poetry venue that has been a dynamic part of the cultural climate of Chicago since 1990. Such greats as Maureen Flannery, Andrea Change, Carlos Cortez, Lisa Buscani, the Aztec Dancers, Malachi Abaja, Marc Smith, Michael Warr and Neal Pollack have been featured here. Beach Poetry was founded by award-winning poet and playwright, Cathleen Schandelmeier on North Avenue Beach when the venue where she was hosting shut down for renovation. The Beach Poets earned Schandelmeier the title "Poet Laureate of North Ave Beach" by the Chicago Tribune in 1996. The Beach Poets have also appeared on "Wild Chicago". This amazing happening is now located at Loyola Beach, on Greenleaf and the lake, The Beach Poets takes place from 4 pm-5:30 pm every Sunday afternoon in the summer. Look for the Beach Poets tent South of the Heartland's "Stand in the Sand" and be sure to bring poetry (your own or someone else's) for the round-robin open "mic"! Children and pets are always welcome! The Beach Poets began in 1990, when Cathleen was hosting a poetry reading at Sheffield's School St. Cafe. She had 30 poets show up, as well as a feature, only to be informed that the venue was closed for renovation. Left with no where to perform, Cathleen loaded everyone into her '74 VW Beetle (ok other's had cars too) and off they went to North Avenue Beach. Little did they realize that history was being made that night - not in the history of the world has another poetry reading endured on the Beaches of Lake Michigan for 16 consecutive years! Every reading in the summer features a round robin style open "mic", an incredible featured poet, as well as music and poetry by the talented Schandelmeier/Bartels family. (Cathleen married Peter C. Bartels in 1999). EXPERIENCE THE BEACH POETS AT LOYOLA BEACH! Cathleen was named "Outstanding Leader in Peace" by the Peace Museum, 1994; recieved "Certificate of Leadership in Racial Justice" from the YWCA in DuPage County, 1994; named one of the "100 Women Making a Difference" by Today's Chicago Woman Foundation, 1998. Her poem titled "Visions From John Lennon" was included in a show titled "Divided We Speak" by artist Miroslaw Rogala at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. "Moving Chicago" multi-arts performance piece with Ha!man Francois LeRoux at the Peter Jones Gallery, October & November, 2005. "Chicago Phoenix" book of poetry published by Puddin'head Press, 2005. Married to musician Peter C. Bartels, mother of three incredible children, Vincent, 16, Teo, 7 and Katie Marie, 5.

Bedeviling involves acting, speaking, and thinking as though you have already received what you’ve asked for. When you emit the frequency of having received it, the law of attraction moves people, events, and circumstances for you to receive. ~The Secret by Rhonda Byrne

Oh god no! Not any time soon....I got some kind of flu/cold thing that's been going around the daycare and the family I nanny for. You're funny, if another baby was coming there would be completely different comments or mood status posted for that.
But all else is good here, I've been super busy working and playing mommy!

~Beautiful Friend~
Remember to always say what you mean.
If you love someone, tell them.
Don't be afraid to express yourself.
Reach out and tell someone what they mean to you.
Because when you decide that it is the right time it might be too late.
Seize the day. Never have regrets.
And most importantly, stay close to your friends and family, for they have helped
make you the person that you are today.

“Happiness radiates like the fragrance from a flower, and draws all good things toward you. Allow your love to nourish yourself as well as others. Do not strain after the needs of life. It is sufficient to be quietly alert and aware of them. In this way, life proceeds more naturally and effortlessly. Life is here to Enjoy!"~Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
