Bearded owes its existence to a pissed off northerner on a golf course in Wales. Avoiding the golfing clichés of snobbery and bad trousers, Bearded loves independent music, independent music labels and thinks they deserve more coverage in the nationwide music press.
On a list of things we like, artists who may appear are Misty’s Big Adventure, Daniel Johnston, Ralfe Band, Voodoo Trombone Quartet, MIT and anyone mesmerising us on the Leaf Label. As far as other music magazines go, we like Plan B, Stool Pigeon and Blowback (RIP), we love these magazines and, not that we are anything like them, insist you should look at them too.
We launched our first issue on 20 August 2007 and it included features on Matt Berry, the Polyphonic Spree, Throwing Snow, Untitled Musical Project, End of the Road Festival, Spillers Records and Freshly Squeezed Music. It also had live reviews, album reviews, a review of the fantastic Supersonic Festival and other titbits and beautifully Bearded illustrations. You can view it online by visiting our website www.beardedmagazine.co.uk but in print (which you can also pick up for free) the same articles reveal themselves in gorgeous, 100% recycled, uncoated stock. If you can’t find one, you can subscribe or order a back issue on the aforementioned website.
