PRESS

"Boston’s Bearstronaut continue to evolve ahead of the rapid pace of electronic music’s frequent renaissances. “Moniker” is a post-pop masterpiece that recalls the best of smooth r&b and underground new wave; too urgent to be chillwave, too earnest to be noir-pop, too grounded to be electro, all while retaining a modern style of a vintage synth-pop sound. "
– DJ Michael V, the pill boston

"This track [Shannon], as well as countless others makes me get up and get down regardless of time/mood/anything. If you are just looking for a good time, or are trying to craft the perfect dance party mix."
-Nic Warner, One Song

"[Moniker] is the sound of a good band turning into a great band"
-David Virr, WFNX

"On this almost six-minute-long excursion through dance-floor euphoria, they trade attitude and the imperfections of jittery rock angles for a washy synth sheen. [Moniker] is further proof that the young band are figuring this shit out on the fly: at the 3:25 mark, the track flips the script from electronic to almost straight disco pop, packing two songs’ worth of material into one. Last year’s Broken Handclaps showed that Bearstronaut had ideas, but if “Moniker” is any indication, they’ve now figured out how to implement them.
-Luke O'Neil, The Boston Phoenix

"This synth-loving foursome never seems to stop singing, moving, dancing, and making listeners want to do the same. The title of one of its uptempo dance-floor anthems, “Pink Ladies & Sassy Babies,’’ captures all the frothy, frolicsome hijinks and hedonism that Bearstronaut brings to the proceedings. The group’s foxy ’09 debut, “Broken Handclaps,’’ retro-tinged with an ’80s sensibility filtered through Killers-meets-Rapture glitter, is all jigsawing guitars, rubbery bass, and beats tailor-made for strobe lights, real or imagined."
-The Boston Globe

"From the get-go [Shannon] is thick with grooves enticing the listener to get up and move, but it’s never overbearingly electronic. Lead singer Dave Martineau has clearly taken great pains to firmly root his vocals in the natural realm, preventing “Shannon” (and all of Bearstronaut’s offerings) from devolving into a purely mechanical exercise"
-Boston Band Crush
