THE HISTORY

In January 2008, Colin Haskins had an idea for a poetry festival which would span at least seven days. It grew into eight. The festival theme was Beat, as in Beat Generation. A few fellow word smiths mentioned Yvon Cormier as someone who knew about the Beats and could be of some help.

Colin called and said, "Are you ready for this? How would you like to get in on a poetry festival?" Yvon jumped at the opportunity to help create something so promising.

The premise of the Ct. Beat Poetry Festival was, like the Gallery 6 reading with Howl, to gather poets of minor note, regional fame with unknowns and give them strong exposure as with the Beat tradition.

Virgogray Press is an indie publisher, proudly making chapbooks and presenting the world with fresh poetry from genuine voices. We're just wanting to add to the many great works out there and are happy to be part of the literary movement! We are currently accepting manuscript submisssion for chapbook publication, but not for long. On Dec. 1, 2009, we will no longer be taking submissions for chapbook length manuscripts becuase we already have plenty of great poets to come in 2010, but we are still accepting general poetry submissions for other publications, so if you are a poet who wants to have your work published, or maybe wants others to read your work in the form of a publication, check out our website for details and maybe you can hop along with the Virgogray Press familiy, too!
