Bio:

(Beaucoup is French for 'LOTS', and Shakti means "creative feminine energy, or life force". So, BEAUCOUP SHAKTI means "Lots of Creative Energy".)
Beaucoup Shakti (Bow-coo shock-T) is a lyric-driven, female-fronted alternative to Alternative, creating songscapes that move and inspire. "Award-winning songwriter Sharon Bousquet (boo-skay) and honey-voiced keyboardist Phoenix Jordan intertwine their vastly different but equally powerful voices so intimately and often, one is forced to sit back and take in the love." Gorgeous. Inspiring. Awesome. Aural, liquid love." These are the comments that audiences across the U.S. continue to make when these two women stand up and sing. Equally comfortable in churches, house concerts and listening rooms, or holding court on a large festival stage, their repertoire of original music and select covers by the likes of Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Lucinda Williams, Billie Holiday and Jason Mraz, make happy converts.

Phoenix Jordan has worked for Disney, Nickelodeon, and Universal Studios. Growing up in a performing arts academy, Phoenix spent her youth studying voice with Russ Faith, a well-loved and admired music teacher in the Philly area. Phoenix has built her life as a filmmaker, performing arts teacher /choreographer, and now a performing songwriter, bringing her natural talent in vocal arranging, a gift of a voice, and early experience scoring to B. Shakti's sound.

Sharon Bousquet is a veteran performing songwriter and acoustic finger-style guitarist, a seminar leader for movement-based singing seminar The Singing Body, and the mother of two boys. Sharon has placed songs and received scoring credits for two recent films: the Telly award-winning "Sister Patchouli", and the Hollywood indie film "Cosmic Radio".

Phoenix and Sharon have just released an inspirational CD of songs written over five years of church performances across the U.S. "How Spirit Sings" finds Reggae, Country-Folk, Americana and Acoustic Pop coexisting on this varied and uplifting CD, as well as a cover of "A Night Full of Talking" by visionary artist Michael Green. As of January 2011, the duo begins pre-production for the highly-anticipated Americana CD "Ricochet".

Influences:

Sharon Bousquet grew up on Fleetwood Mac, CSNY, Joni Mitchell's jazz period, Simon & Garfunkel; Sandy Denny, Nick Drake, John Martyn, Windham Hill, prog rock like Yes & ELP; Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd. Throw all that in a pot with vocal jazz (Sarah, Ella, Etta, etc.), Jeff Beck, Michael Hedges, Natalie Merchant & a range of contemporary acoustic artists who provide spiritual balm in the form of finely crafted words riding gorgeous melodies on a bed of silence that is Presence itself. Space and time and internal rhyme, amen!

Phoenix Jordan was strongly influenced by Russell Faith, Percy Faith's cousin and a renowned songwriter, producer - Phoenix's voice teacher throughout her youth. Phoenix embodies the wide-ranging melodic sensibilities of many influences in her original compositions: Broadway, Big Band-era jazz, R & B and all forms of dance music. As a filmmaker, exposure to scores and soundtracks has had an immense influence on creating mood and an emotional ride for the listener. And, for the more literal-minded among us, B Shakti sounds like the voices of sibling angels.... harmonies to shiver and shake you... both healing and exciting... a soothing, ecstatic blend: Beaucoup Shakti!

BEAUCOUP SHAKTI is: Sharon Bousquet - songs, acoustic guitars (Taylor and Martin) and vocals; Phoenix Jordan on keys (Korg, Kurzweil) and vocals.
