My entire record collection and much, much more. You'll often find punk bands on my stereo these days (NOFX, Bad Religion, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Lagwagon, Apocalypse Hoboken etc), but you're just as likely to find Stereolab, Foetus or Aphex Twin, or any manner of obscure early '90s indie bands. I try not to do mainstream...
After a lot of time spent rejecting rubbish band names Beaver Fuel finally filled a void in the life of Leigh Alexander. This roughly coincided with the purchase of a hard disk recorder in 2001 and the mission to fulfil all those teenage dreams finally began with explorations into a variety of musical genres. As guitars had been the weapon of choice for the previous ten years it was only natural that they should feature heavily on the recordings. Eventually the studio exploits dropped off as acoustic guitar activity was on the rise, and live performances began at open mic nights around Oxfordshire. Realising that there was by now a backlog of unrecorded songs and new ones were being written at quite a rate the studio was brought back to life in 2006 and two demos were produced, Where I Am Today and The Old New Conflict. A few songs from sessions in 2002/3 were featured, all with new vocals, along with some of the newest songs of the time. Over the space of a year over 200 demos have been distributed to random people at gigs – bands, punters, promoters, no-one is safe. A recruitment drive saw Russell drafted in on guitar and the odd acoustic gig was played as a duo. Finally it seemed about time Beaver Fuel became a proper band and Spring 2007 saw four people in a room making a lot of noise. A few line-up changes then occurred, and now we are properly bothering the ears of the music fans of Oxford and hopefully way beyond. Spring 2008 saw the release of debut EP "Doesn't This Remind You of Kidney Beans", assembled under military supervision at a secret air base, just prior to 'War Thursday', which I assume is how our troops learn how not to get shot by Americans. Personally I think they need more practice, but I'm sure that's what a lot of people say about us. You can obtain a copy of the aforementioned ep by asking us nicely, and probably the most convenient way right now is to send us a myspazz message. We promise to reply as soon as we can be arsed. You can of course listen to the songs right here, but it doesn't help them get on to your ipod. Or earpod. You need to pay us money for that kind of shit. For plenty of better songs you need to see us live, and "Fuck You, I've Got Tourette's" is currently going down a storm. Or light drizzle, at least.
We're about to record a new EP but can't decide which songs to put on it. To avoid any more 'heated debates' we've decided to let the good people of the internet decide.
If you've got a spare few minutes, please head over to http://www.naomihateshumans.com - have a listen to the songs and rate them. We promise to stand by the opinions of the interweb. Even if you are wrong.
