I've been influenced by countless artists and styles of music: the Beatles, Carole King, Randy Newman, Anthony da Costa, Peter Mulvey, Jimi Hendrix, Maurice Ravel, blues, jazz, classical, Billy Joel, Tori Amos, Mozart, and the many talented independent musicians I've met here in New York.

My music is piano-based and the lyrics, while drawing from a variety of sources, retain a personal quality. My songs often incorporate a mix of styles (alternative, folk, jazz, blues, pop).
Becca Hasselbrook’s songs are a testament to her diverse taste in music, incorporating folk, pop, jazz, and other styles. Her character-driven songs range from humorous vignettes to socially conscious narratives, and everything in between.
Becca grew up in the quiet suburbs of New Jersey, where the two local styles were high-school punk rock and grown-up acoustic folk. She attended a few loud concerts in her youth and has been known to drive down the highway blasting psychedelic rock, but she decided she’d rather write music conducive to safe driving. During college she lived on Long Island for several months, finding a place in the acoustic music community there. Seeking a larger audience, she moved to New York City, but was disappointed to discover lots of ears, but few people listening. Becca has since returned to Long Island and performs in the New York area both solo and with her band.

"In the immense silence of emptiness, Universal Cosmic Energy illuminates omnipresently over the deep space of impermanent existence, where sufferings exist endlessly in the profoundly moving beauty of the Universe. Meditation is the greatest path to the cessation of sufferings under the movement of intelligence, peace, and love."
So glad you liked the show. Thanks again for coming!
The recording device I used is the Zoom H2. Got it on sale at Sam Ash. There are other recorders, but this is the cheapest of the "new generation" of such devices.

Hi Becca, I hope you're having fun at the conference! If you get back in time, come to Postcrypt at Columbia University this Saturday the 28th - I'm playing the 9:30 set (come early to get a seat if you can).
Take the 1 train to 116th, enter the campus at 116th & Broadway, and ask for directions to St. Paul's Chapel. Postcrypt is in the basement of the chapel.
Hope all is well in your world! Make sure to keep in touch ;)
Our double album (with a name now, called Disc 01 / Disc 02 ) is finally done recording, we're just mixing it down. We've got another sneak peak from it available, called "This Is My Curtain Call".
It's a "fan exclusive", so if you havn't signed up already, you'll just need to put in your e-mail address and then you can listen to it! :) Let me know what you think! It's a bit different than our other stuff.
Becca, I really want to come to your concert but I have to teach piano tonight and then work really early tomorrow. Keep me posted on your other gigs and I will come. :) Rock the house!
