Better still, let's give Donald Barthelme a crack at it:
"You mean that sound that sounds like polar bears crossing Arctic ice pans? That sounds like a herd of musk ox in full flight? That sounds like male walruses diving to the bottom of the sea? That sounds like fumaroles smoking on the slopes of Mt. Katmai? That sounds like the wild turkey walking through the deep, soft forest? That sounds like beavers chewing trees in an Appalachian marsh? That sounds like an oyster fungus growing on an aspen trunk? That sounds like a mule deer wandering a montane of the Sierra Nevada? That sounds like prairie dogs kissing? That sounds like witchgrass tumbling or a river meandering? That sounds like manatees munching seaweed at Cape Sable? That sounds like coatimundis moving in packs across the face of Arkansas? bedroom community is the new "ukulectronica" solo project from Steven Swartz, best known as the leader of the avant-folk group Songs from a Random House, which dissolved amicably in 2006 after releasing a pair of critically lauded CDs, gListen and Random Numbers, on the Bar/None and Sargasso labels. (Go to songsfromarandomhouse.com for music and info.) bedroom community features Steven's voice, ukuleles, and laptop in original songs, plus a smattering of unlikely covers. The name refers to the original location of his recording studio, with a nod to some of the lyrical concerns that have occupied him over the years -- the intimate worlds of sleep, dreaming, love, sex, and daily life in general. Yet political concerns are making their way into his new songs as well, as in his ode to unreliable information, on Tuesday, a powerful cold front moves in.
For your listening pleasure, here are some rough mixes/demos of tunes from an upcoming self-titled album. These are sure to evolve, so drop in regularly for updated versions and additional songs. bedroom community made its up-close-and-personal live debut in September 2007 at Barbes in Brooklyn; stay tuned for news of upcoming shows...
By the way, we are not currently affiliated with the excellent Bedroom Community label out of Iceland, but you should definitely check them out.
