   About Bed Is Rude
Based in Pickering, Ontario, Derek Humphrey started out in 1995 as a drummer with a guitar background in “Tom’s Band.” The four-member pop-rock group played venues that included the Gasworks and the Opera House. He moved on to hard rock with his next four-member band, “Dr. CG,” playing drums and engineering their recordings. Humphrey received a diploma in audio engineering from Trebas Institute in 1999, and in early 2006 he recorded and produced a demo for independent hard-rock artist Keith Reid. In late 2006 he began working on his current independent project, “Bed is Rude (EP)” Moving from his hard-rock roots to more of a pop esthetic, Humphrey now draws inspiration from a mix of genres spanning from classical to hard-rock. He is engineering and producing the album, and plays a full range of instruments including keyboards, percussion, bass, guitar, and vocals. The "Bed Is Rude EP" was completed in 2007 but remains unreleased as additional songs are being added to create a replacement LP album. The album has been scheduled for release in late fall, 2009. His current style focuses on short, catchy songs that explore themes such as social complacency. “So many people today rely more and more on technology to communicate,” Humphrey says. “They’re interacting person-to-person less and less, which is a real shame.” While many of his songs are linked to real-life issues, drawing from his personal experience and observations, Humphrey is also interested in the construction of the songs themselves. He has a great deal of respect for artists from the 70s and 80s, saying, “When I was mixing the album, I tried to go back two to three decades, when music was handled with care and respect. So much modern music is overproduced—the songs get the life squeezed out of them.” and. . . . I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4 Thank you Thomas
