Beekeepers Society, is an indie band based out of Brampton Ontario. They have been playing together since 2007 across Ontario and currently are 7 members strong.
They have played at such festivals as NXNE, Canadian Music Week, The Pitter Patter Festival, Bradstock and The Brampton Indie Arts Festival. Their music has received airplay on several radio shows across Ontario and abroad such as, 94.9 CHRW London, 100.3 Sound Fm Waterloo, thatchannel.com, breakthruradio.com, and 91.7 Koop FM Texas, to name a few. Along with this they have opened up for some well known and up and coming acts such as Still Life Still, Black Hat Brigade, Oh no Forest Fires, Woodhands and the Bicycles.
Using both analog and electronic instruments, Beekeepers Society work to create music that is pop dreamy and often danceable. Bass, guitars, drums and xylophone are layered together with keyboards and a drum machine, producing a colourful sound scape that has been compared to the likes of the postal service, the flaming lips, hints of the smiths, and pavement.
Darcy is the lead vocalist, while Josie, Dave, Sean, Fred, Cyrus and Vince take turns playing with various instruments. Also included is TR7, a robot that is part mannequin, part record player, and part vintage drum machine.
Beekeepers Society released their first recording in November 2007; an acclaimed four-song EP titled First Year Film School and have recently followed up in May of 2009 with a well-received five-song E.P titled Plastic on the Furniture.
They also released their first music video back in 2008 for the song Family Ties, directed by renowned Toronto photographer Ingrid Johansson. Due to its success they are now working on several more videos due out later 2009 for such songs as Bootleg Beta, House of Frost and First year film school.
…once you actually hear it you understand that the band have the talent to pull it off. Which, really, is what you should take away from Plastic on the Furniture as a whole -- that Beekeepers Society are a pretty talented bunch, and that, two EPs in, they've become a band to watch for.

…a musical talent and fine bunch of folks. Keep it coming. –Black Hat Brigade
The pop gem, called, "Turn up the gain" is everything you'd expect from the 'keepers: smart, smooth and uhhh, really fucking cool. –Chris www.friendsofc.blogspot.com

Beekeepers Society melted everybody's face with I don't even really know what to call it. It was like what I imagine seeing Broken Social Scene at Ted's Wrecking Yard in 2001 was like... it was ambient but dancey but cool and washy and all pleasant things, and all around just super rad people- if they blow up in everyone's faces I will not be surprised. –Oh no Forest Fires

Nice CD review in Exclaim online 'Brampton, ON alt-pop five-piece Beekeepers Society seem like they're in a transitional state. Their EP, Plastic on the Furniture, begins with excessively adorable pop number "House of Frost," which lyrically references "bake sales" and "lychee" and depends heavily on xylophone'
thnx for the compliments! that's old stuff i gots up there now.. been focusing on the Phantom Cosmonaut of late & trying to resurrect Pelham 123. turns out resurrecting things from the dead isn't as easy as one might think. :)
