I AM STOKESY. Thats my nickname, which isn't very imaginative as my name is Paul Stokes. I started playing guitar in 1999, and three months later wrote my first song "Late at night". My friend AL Bonkers, who had at the time been playing guitar for over twenty years, asked me to play him a tune one night, so I reluctantly played him that. He then said he recognised it and asked me whose song it was. I very sheepishly replied "mine". With Al's initial support, and later the inspirational support of my wife Catherine who I met and married in 2002. I have continued to write songs on a frequent almost frenetic basis. I also toured round Europe in a camper an with my wife, playing solo gigs in bars all over Amsterdam, France and Spain.
I did a huge amount of busking in San sebastian, near Bilbao. Which was fantastic, and teamed up with an American called Chris, doing a number of gigs in the San Sebastian area. Performing as the "Melon and Walnut experience" (due to Chris having a Melon for a head, and I a walnut).
I have had a number of Solo gigs in England, and recently played at the Prince of Wales pub in Gatley, as part of the Gatley music festival.
Here is a list of songs I have written, in near enough chronological order.

I am currently recording new material and also working on a project for a relaxation therapist, which involves me adding music to a cd of the therapist's voice which takes people on a journey of self discovery. I am also working on a couple of collaborations with other musicians. If you like what you hear and want to hear more, please contact me. Namaste, Stokesy.

Hi Stokesy, Really enjoyed your set at Fuel, many thanks for playing. The guitar/ mandolin/ Korg keyboard lineup works really well, reminiscent of early Pink Floyd etc. We might be looking to borrow Mark your keyboard player for a couple of tracks on our 2nd album! all the best, Andy of PA
This month’s Picnic Club features quirkily original songwriter Stokesy, acoustic soul diva Lavinia Ferguson (accompanied by ex-My Cat Dances guitarist Steve McGuire), and swoonsome Americana from the Spinning Jennys. What they all have in common is that they are all from the north side of Manchester - tenuous or what? As a replacement for Polly Polecat who have had to drop out, we have the return of a Fuel regular and top Manc songwriter Steve O'Donoghue - pure pop for noughties people! Plus of course the usual warped country genius of your hosts, south Manchester renegades Picnic Area.
hey Paul Great new tune my friend. Such a beautiful family. Easy to see how they inspire. You just keep getting better. Glad the gigs are going well. Get some video uploaded someday.
Thanks for putting us on at El Rancho's - really enjoyed it! I'm hoping to get my friend Lois (who came along on Sat) to sing some songs with me at your night some time - will be in touch soon, Andy
Hey there.! Hope you are ok. Cheers for last nite. Sorry we had to leg it off without really seeing you play. Thought there was a good atmosphere. Enjoyed playing with the trumpeter, doing something different was appreciated. We were relaxed about the whole thing and enjoyed playing. Hope we did'nt go on too long. Next time would like to get there early and maybe have some food with you and Catherine and make more of a social occasion of it, rather than just playing and doing one. Looking forward to March. Like Rocket... beautiful. take care. Wayne. x
