Music
As Ray Charles said, "There are two kinds of music- good music and bad music." I'm eclectic in my tastes. I was a fanatic teenybopper in the late 60s and early 70s and loved seeing all of the local bands at the Orlando and Winter Park youth centers, and old groups at the Orlando sports stadium, skating rink (even saw the Yardbirds there!), armory, downtown auditorium, etc. I went to all but three of the old rock concerts at the local sports stadium. I have wonderfully fun memories of listening to 8-tracks while riding around in my Peaugot (the Silver Bullet) with my friends. My first 8-track tapes were Blind Faith and Santana. Whoo! After listening to WLOF AM every morning and every night in bed with my earphones (ending with Go Now or Goodnight, My Love), WORJ FM was the best station imaginable [and my ex later was a disc jockey there]! I still LOVE listening to 60's psychedelic such as Hendrix and all the groups from the West Coast, XM's Deep Tracks, Original Woodstock groups, early Poco with Richie Furay, early Blood, Sweat and Tears with Al Kooper, early Steve Miller, later Beatles- esp George Harrison, Led Zep, Van the Man, JT, Dylan (what poetry!), Clapton and everything he has ever done, old British invasion (they respected and appreciated blues more than we did, and we owe them a LOT), old Soul, Wave, Rockabilly, and live jazz. I could go on and on with individual artists, but just check out my "friends". I've always been more of a music person than lyric person, and half of the time didn't know all of them (could be the music systems back then!) My favorite genre is Blues. It gets me right in my gut and soul! Music always sets my mood straight. I've always wished I could play, but I never had the coordination! I treasure my I-Pod collection, but, I'll have to say, I miss the days of listening to my favorite or new record albums over and over while reading the covers over and over, as well!

Movies
I usually can't stand watching movies more than once, but do have a few favorites- such as The Big Chill, The Breakfast Club, Witches of Eastwick, Prince of Tides, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, Teachers, Two Days in the Valley, Billy Jack, Goonies, Willow, Dirty Dancing, the first Star Wars, Forrest Gump, Waiting to Exhale, Educating Rita, Same Time Next Year, An Unbearable Lightness of Being, Lucky Number Slevyn, 12 Angry Men (b+w), lots of Music videos- (Check out my favorites on You Tube [Beesqd])+ DVDs
Television
TV rots the senses in the head!
It kills the imagination dead!
It clogs and clutters up the mind!
It makes a child so dull and blind.
He can no longer understand a fantasy,
A fairyland!
His brain becomes as soft as cheese!
His powers of thinking rust and freeze!
An excerpt from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,
By Roald Dahl, 1964
Research tells us that the brain is more active during sleep than while watching TV. I am very selective about what I watch, but still spend too much time viewing the boob tube! I'm always looking for some redeeming value in a show. I usually avoid murder "who-dun-its"-- entertainment at the expense of innocent victims, usually female, whether fact or fictional. And I don't really care for situation comedies or most reality shows- except Rock Star INXS, which I loved! I miss Ally McBeal!! I mostly like dramas and documentaries. The CBS Sunday Morning show, VH1's Best Week Ever, The Dog Whisperer, Bones, Dancing With the Stars (even though I can NOT dance myself! I'm clumsy- great rhythm but NO grace!) Who's Line is it Anyway?, + News programs, Discovery Channel, Nat Geo, LINK, History Channel, Nature, and Nova are my favorites.
Books
The Great Escape! I love anything by Dan Brown, Isabele Allende, Pat Conroy, Alice Walker, Barbara Kingsolver, Wally Lamb, Alphie Kohn, Donald Graves, Joseph Campbell, Pramahansa Yogananda, Ramakrishna, Krishnamurti, Thich Nhat Hanh, and many more. I love the Clan of the Cave Bear series, Lord of the Rings series, Hanta Yo, The Women's Room, and Ya Ya Sisterhood. I enjoy biographies and nonfiction. I love the Conversations With God series and A Course in Miracles, and anything published by Hay House. I love Anansi stories and other African folktales. I love children's literature, and enjoy reading to my students. It is difficult to find time for my own pure pleasure reading these days. And when I do, I tend to fall asleep!
Heroes
My late & living family members, Rosa Parks (my number 1 shero), Jimmy Carter, Einstein, Mahatma Ghandi, Chief Seattle, Maya Angelou, America's founding fathers, Our Soldiers, Michael Moore, Oprah (I feel her pain), Dharma (who I wanna be like when I "grow up") in Dharma and Greg, Compelling authors, Great musicians, Nonconformists, Children, and Big dogs
About me:
I'm just a girl who's been around awhile. I'm quiet, reflective, non-materialistic, and pretty laid back (except when working). Currently going thru a divorce, and looking for a new home in Winter Garden. I am passionate about my work. Not very wordy. Former Flower Child, Beach Bum, and Earth Mama. Blues Lover. I'm A.D.D. (airhead) and kinda dorky, but am OK with it. Because I'm empathetic and see all sides of issues, I may seem wishy-washy or hypocritical. But I am always sincere. My goal is to be fair and harmonious. But, I'll have to say, sometimes I'm full of crap. Ultra Liberal - INFP - Unitarian. At times I am passively non-compliant and a rebel. I love to "party", and I love (and live) to learn. I've done some cool things, personally and professionaly, such as skydive (once); scuba dive in the Keys, the Bahamas, Florida springs, and the Dominican Republic; and help rescue pelicans in Cape Canaveral. I won a wild ride in an Aeroshell aerobatic plane at a SkyFest show, which was a blast! I've shot pictures of animals on safaris in Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe and whitewater rafted on the Zambezi River! I lived in Madrid as a child and spoke Spanish, which I sadly have forgotten. I was in a life changing Christian "cult" when I was a teenager- good kids, just misguided leader. Natural childbirth and nursing were awesome. My son is the wittiest person I know, not to my credit! My grandchildren are incredibly sweet! Before (and while) teaching I had some interesting jobs. I worked in a rocking chair theater, a music store, a record store, a juice bar, and as a barmaid at some cool places. I "grew up" when I became a teacher. I've taught elementary school for 28 years. I got my Masters degree online. I'm a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT). My students and I have been featured on both a local TV news channel and a county school video for a wonderful conflict resolution program, and another year on a great masters degree college video program for brain based learning. Teaching is my greatest hobby, and I have loved each of my schools! The bad: Schools are a reflection of our society. The good: School is what you make of it. I spend a lot of time on school related activities, and my normal day to day life (up to 10 to 12 hr. workdays) is pretty tame and quiet. I love to brainstorm, play with ideas, and aquire new knowledge. I find small talk excruciating but enjoy listening. Engage in deep talk, and I have a hard time shutting up! I enjoy bettering myself (most of the time) and totally believe in what I like to call the "psychic boomerang". I am terribly undisciplined- I'll eat a beautiful salad for dinner, then top it off with ice cream drenched in chocolate syrup. Although I'm emotionally strong, I don't have a good relationship with my physical body. I have survived being a blue baby, dislocated hips as a toddler, casts & braces for scoliosis and spinal fusions as a teen, and a huge benign brain tumor/meningioma as an adult, making the best of what I've attracted (even leading to buying my first home, which I wish I still had). Thus, I have always hated having attention to my physical self! I've grown tough, sensitive, and prone to go for the underdog and have learned to embrace being "different". I am so very thankful that I was born exactly when I was, as a baby boomer (helping blaze the trail for my younger "sisters", like wearing mini skirts and later pants in school [resulting in in-school suspension] and burning bras-but not flags or books) and I feel so totally blessed and grateful to be my age!
As you know, I’m an eco-guy and own a company called UrbanScooters.com. Well, I’ve been trying to convince some of our manufacturer’s to produce a more eco-friendly stand-up gas scooter and Go-Ped has stepped up to the challenge. I’d like to throw as much support behind this really cool, propane powered, clean burning, green scooter called the ..Go-Ped Pro-Ped as I can.
If this scooter is successfully launched, they will manufacturer more! Please tell everyone you know about it. If you have any questions, just ask. Check out info and a video about the Go-Ped Pro-Ped!
I am stopping by to say "hi" and to remind you that in addition to MySpace, you can visit with me on Twitter and Facebook. I also have a personal blog on StockValues.
I write mostly about farming/gardening and stock/bond investing, but also anything else that rattles my cage. Please stop by when you get a chance.
