Band MembersFraser Gill hails from bonny Scotland, great voice and widens Beeswing's repertoire across the border.
Keith Blackburn comes, originally from Lancashire and includes many songs from there in Beeswing's repertoire. He has been known to have written some great songs in his time, many of which are now in our repertoire. Keith is also the organiser of Blyth Valley Samba Band, which is a drumming group.
Dave Minikin runs the Bridge Folk Club in Newcastle upon Tyne, England and the Bluestone Folk Club. He also organises two Folk 'n' Fun Weekends per year when a number of like minded people go away and sing songs and drink ale. As well as all this Dave is also the caller in Summerhill Folly Ceilidh Band
Christine Savage a rose between three thorns, you might say. Christine puts a nice woman's angle into the repertoire and helps to keep the men in check.
InfluencesToo many to mention, but CBS, Jez Lowe,
Sounds LikeWe mainly sound like us. We are unlike any other band.

Myspace Layouts

Beeswing evolved as a result of the Beehive Folk club near Whitley Bay in the North East of England. It happened one night when the harmonies to Sally Free and Easy were so strong and numerous that a folk group had to be formed, out of those present. The rest is history. The Beehive Folk Club has now moved to the Delaval Arms in Old Hartley and is known as The Bluestone Folk Club. Beeswing is a, mainly, a capella folk group with great harmonies, with the occasional guitar accompaniment. Most of the repertoire is local to the North East with a few Scottish songs and some from Lancashire. Many songs from our rich heritage of mining. To this end Beeswing have put together a collection of songs covering all aspects of the mining industry, called 'A Rich Seam of Songs' from love in the family to death and destruction in the mines, tinged with a modecum of humour. Every year Beeswing put together a concert in New Hartley to remember the major disaster where nearly the whole male population of the village was killed. As well as mining songs, Beeswing feature sea songs and shanties, serious songs and funny songs, many of which have rousing choruses which the audience feel they have to join in. Beeswing have performed all over the North of England, including the Sage Gateshead. We just love to sing and can accomodate most types of venue whether or not amplification is required.

Hello Beeswing - Dave, Christine, Fraser & Keith.
I very much appreciate your attendance and support last night in helping to make my 65th rather extraordinary. I have to say I was blown away by all the talent including yours! I’m working on a couple of new dates around the end of May and July for some more “Folk at the Comrades” I’ll let you know when I have these firmed up. I think all the musicians & singers performed very well and certainly gave me a wonderful memory. One I’ll always treasure!!!

Very best wishes,
John & Eileen

I met Beeswing at the Bluestone Folk Club around the end of 2006 I owe them much gratitude for helping to re-ignite my love of Folk Music in partictular and live music in general. I have really enjoyed my visits to The "Bluestone" A great crowd to be found there. Can't say more than that - Thanks for your friendship!
