MySpace a place for friends

From the very beginning we have strived to paint that picture. To create and compose a sound that will not only translate into an explosive live show, but also convey a message that will provoke thought in our listeners. As the collaboration of years of musical relationships both with other bands and musicians alike, the efforts of Before the Calm have culminated in the recording of the highly acclaimed EP “Paradigm Shift”; an eclectic offering of relentless hard driving drum arrangements, walls of anathematic guitars along with soaring, epic vocals and lyrics. The release has spawned the single “Surreal” which has dominated the internationally recognized garageband.com at number two for the past eight months in the alternative metal category.

Before entering the studio every song is written out as a score. Using midi-based computer programs, note for note we deliberate, we analyze, we compose. We are five brothers who pride themselves in perfection and attention to detail. We have managed to not only forge a niche for ourselves in the local rock scene but knocking down the door into a genre seldom explored. Combining alternative, neo-classical and metal motifs with carefully crafted drumming, prominent melodic lines, falsetto and screaming together, we feel this blend of styles best expresses each songs’ potential as vehicle for conveying our intended thoughts and soundscapes.

Our aim is to create a sound that is able to transcend genres and audiences alike without sounding forced or preconceived. We are also five musicians united in our efforts to leave any stage we step foot on in ruble. We want people to move, to head bang, to relate and most importantly, to feel. Conveying our sound at campuses across southern Ontario as well as local rock festivals, we have been fortunate enough to do so opening for such acts as Ill Scarlett, Social Code, and The Ataris.

We remain students of our craft constantly learning, evolving and ultimately pushing the limits of our music. We truly believe the greatest thing is being involved in the creation of a piece of art that sparks a reaction in our listeners. Music is a gift that transcends all languages, and to simply be a part of it is a privilege which we do not take lightly. It is thought that if anyone is to achieve any sort of peace in their lives, they will be forced to face confusion and anger, with the hope that in the end there is a light through perseverance. All must be endured before achieving a state of fulfillment, enlightenment and calm. We are Before the Calm...
