| General | Music, journalism, fiction, short stories, creative writing, biology, psychology, entomology, astrology, astronomy, UFO's, theology, philosophy, anthropology, archeology, geology, all aspects of history human or otherwise, good food and drink, good company, all kinds of good things and stuff and such. | | Music | Bands of the moment include Swans, 3, A'tris, Tool, Fields of the Nephilim, Gnarls Barkley, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Black Light Burns, Bob Dylan, Opeth, NiN, Meshuggah and Kayo Dot, amongst others. | | Movies | There Will Be Blood is the best movie I've seen in the past 5 years. I love historical films, especially the more violent and gritty stuff. Saving Private Ryan is probably my all-time favorite film. Others include Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Night of the Living Dead, LOTR, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Requiem for a Dream, Taxi Driver, etc. | | Television | Mixed bag. Informal programs on channels like Discovery, National Geographic, Sci-fi, History and the Military channel are almost always good. Small amounts of 'news' (these people are told what to say and how to say it, TV news is not reliable), and I'll watch a basketball or hockey game now and then. NFL Football is the only thing I stay glued to the television for; it's one of my deepest passions. | | Books | I read at least 3 books a month. Anything I can get my hands on. Doesn't matter, fiction or non, modern or classical, well-written or total crap; if someone published it, I'll give it a try. I love, in particular, the fables and morale stories of the bible and of other religious texts, fantasy novels such as Lord of the Rings and any of Tolkein's works, Stephen King, Tom Clancy, Neil Peart (drummer for rock band Rush; also excellent writer), and newspapers galore. | | Heroes | Those who have lived and died by their beliefs, however logical or insane; it is only by being true to ourselves that the path to true enlightenment and peace will be revealed. My grandmother, mother and father are my real heroes; my grandmother for her lessons of family spirit and dedication, my mother for the same and for her deep strength of character, and my father for his work ethic and personality. All of the examples of honor, decency and pride laid before me act as 'heroes' towards my own personal cause; to be the best man below God and above temptation |
