About me:

I'm a writer and teacher, and I'm retro because I like nice people. Funny is good, too. I also like people and writing that are edgy, thoughtful, artistic, complicated, ambiguous, surprising and deep.

I'm the author of a novel (FOR THE MAY QUEEN), a poetry collection (LIKE ALL WE LOVE) and a book about lesbian and gay teachers (NEGOTIATING THE SELF). My second novel, COMPLEMENTARY COLORS, is coming out this summer.

FOR THE MAY QUEEN is about a young woman's first year away from home. It's about dorm life in the 1980's and about all the ways we grapple with freedom.

COMPLEMENTARY COLORS is about a straight woman who falls in love with a lesbian. It's about what happens when we, and the world, suddenly see ourselves in a different light.

I'm working on a memoir about caregiving and another novel.

A California native, I teach Creative Writing and other English classes at San Jose State University.

    the good and the bad, and make changes as YOU see fit,
