Beki Playing with The Blues Magoos @ The fillmore - Irving Plaza July 11, 2008

Myspace Editor

Yeah, Beki is the lead and slide guitarist on all these tunes! she got her Stratocaster in 1986 from Stevie Ray Vaughn (G*d rest his soul)

At age 15, Beki met blues legend James "Yank" Rachell, and this was the beginning of a long friendship that fueled Beki's blues career.

Beki played lead guitar for Yank Rachell from the 80's thru the 90's. (Yank, born in 1910 died in 1997).

"Young Women's Blues" performed by Beki Brindle (this is the guitar given to her by Stevie Ray Vaughn , by the way!) Featuring Beki, Ralph Scala ..s, Dean Scala on Drums and Mike Kemp on bass. A Vid of the recording session at Leopard Studios, High Falls, NY. vid by Suzie Kidnap

In 1981, a 20 year old Beki landed her first job as lead guitarist for "The Indianapolis Blues Coalition," In 1983, she was invited to audition for an all-girl glamour band in NYC. She flew to NY and auditioned for the band. While waiting for two weeks to find out that she did in fact get the gig, Beki went up to Woodstock, NY to jam with some friends and subsequently joined two bands; The Tom Pacheco band, and Eric Andersen 's tour band. When the glamour band called, she said she was not interested anymore. She played with these bands for several years and also worked with rock luminaries such as The Band 's Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, John Sebastian, and others.

Beki and Rick Danko in 1990

In 1988, Beki joined Tom Pacheco for a year when he moved the band to Dublin, Ireland. While she was there, she also joined the Mary Stokes Blues Band and experienced over-night Irish fame due to playing the Guinness Jazz Festival in Cork City and also due to a week long performance on the National TV show, "NightHawks." In Ireland, Beki shared the stage with Hot House Flowers, members of U2, The Waterboys, members of Thin Lizzy, and backed up blues artists such as Carey Bell, Johnny Mars, and Fenton Robinson.

Beki and Mary Stokes in Dublin, Ireland 1989

During Beki's year in Dublin, she was commissioned by Bono of U2 to run a blues workshop at a middle school (show was called "Jo Maxi") focusing on the blues. The show was success and ran in Ireland, Italy and Sweden. Beki's favorite place to eat in Dublin was "Bewley's Cafe'" on Grafton St., near Trinity College, Dublin. In 1989, back in the U.S., Beki joined the Warner /Reprise band "Grace Pool" with whom she recorded and toured with until 1992.

In 1992, Beki moved back to Indianapolis and began playing with Yank Rachell again. She made two albums with her band, "Windopane," and also played with Jerry Lee Lewis off and on. Windopane topped the Italian psychedelic and College music charts as "Album of the Year" in 1995 among other things, and more about these albums can be found in the reviews section of this website.

In 1998, Beki moved back to Upstate NY where she is currently living with her husband Ralph Scala (Ralph is the lead singer and keyboardist for The Blues Magoos in the psychedelic 60's!) and assorted cats, dogs and kids and recording.

Beki is currently organizing LAYLAPALOOZA .. a female lead guitarist tribute to Eric Clapton with proceeds going to Ovarian Cancer Research.

Beki LOVES performing often with her son, KEVIN PAST. Kevin is presently playing bass with the band "NAKED" based in Woodstock, NY .. they totally rock! check them out in Beki's "friends" section of myspace.

Genealogy of BEKI: Beki's mother's side of the family came from Vienna, Austria and London, England .. the Londoners came by way of Kiev, Russia and had to swear no allegience to Tsar Nicholas II in order to become US citizens in the early part of the 20th century. The names on this side of the family are: Blau, Aftergut, Morgenbesser and Basan.

Beki's Father's side of the family is Scottish (Campbells of Argyll), French(Faurot's physicians from Paris, Welsh, Anglo-Gaelic (English Viking types!), German, Swiss, - Beki's great x 10 Grandfather was Archibald Campbell The 8th Earl and 1 and only Marquess of Argyll, Scotland - Her great x 9 grandfather was Lord Neil Campbell, sent to New Jersey after his father was beheaded.

Great x 10 Grandpa, 8th Earl of Argyll, Archie Campbell

Rough times in Scotland. The Campbell's were banished to a castle for a couple of years until King Charles I decided they should hit the road to New Jersey. Lord Neil became some kind of Governor over here (settled Perth Amboy) in 1689 and his grandaughter, Anna Campbell married a French Faurot and they lived in Garrison Landing, NY. Their children settled in Cornwall-on-Hudson, then some moved toward western NY and eventually to Franklin, Indiana, USA. "So THAT's why I'm a Hoosier" -- The Campbell line goes back to Robert The Bruce and beyond. King James I of Scotland and Robert The Bruce are great x ? Grandfathers and Eleanor Sinclair grand daughter of William Sinclair or St. Clair of Roslyn Castle .. if you believe all that Da Vinci code stuff, you'll find this interesting .. if not .. well, they lived in a cool place, that's all!)

On the Dutch wing of the family, Beki's 10th cousin is Humphrey Bogart .. on her father's side again..
Her grandfather, Harry Cecil Brindle
and Humphrey Bogart share their 7th great grandmother Elsje Hendricks of Holland making them 8th cousins

Beki is a:
METAL OX
Metal Ox Astrology description:
Feb 19, 1901 to Feb 7, 1902
Feb 15, 1961 to Feb 4, 1962

Oxen people are bright, happy, easy-going and extremely trust worthy. But on the other side they can be very stubborn and short tempered. They are also very competitive and natural mentors. They are generally very alert and make wonderful homes and structures. Along with this brilliance, they also have a sensitive side with a touch of poetic flair. Metal Oxen are warm people and make very good friends. They love to socialize and throw parties. When it comes to their career they are hard working, determined and dedicated. People under this Chinese astrology are mysterious lovers.

Hi Beki, you sure do rock, hope to see you play sometime.

Wanted to show you an old Blues Magoos poster from a gig they did in NJ in 1968, but no html here. First band I ever saw, they were great. It's in my pictures on my page, if you want to have a look.
