Influences
We have several influences that range from Brazilian music to flamenco and jazz such as:Bossacucanova, Gilberto Gil, Aretha Franklin, Joao Bosco, Joao Gilberto, Bebel Gilberto, Djavan, Rosa Passos, Rafael Rabelo, Paco de Lucia, Stevie Wonder, Tomatito, Gerardo Nunez, Ojos de Brujo, Timbalada, Olodum, Romero Lubambo, Pamela Driggs. Marco Pereira, Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown, Radio Tarifa, Tom Jobim, Jackson do Pandeiro.
United by musical interests that include samba, funk, jazz, bossa nova, soul, Spanish flamenco, and blues; Madeline Holly Sales and Humberto Oliveira Sales joined forces to unite melodic, rhythmic and harmonic riches from North and South America. They met at the Federal University of Bahia in Salvador, Bahia Brazil. He, native to Salvador, brought all of the rhythmic riches of what attracts so many international tourists to the hip swinging, samba shaking streets of Brazil during carnival. His formal education in classical guitar and study of Spanish Flamenco added the elegance and poise that is so undeniable when he enters the stage. She brought with her the strong influence of jazz, funk, soul and blues. Her sensual, rich voice and playful stage presence make their combination quite unique.
In 2004 Madeline and Humberto spent six months touring the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts of Turkey and closed the season in Vienna, Austria. They released their first CD, Time to Dream, at the end of 2006. It is a modern blend of all that influences their music.
