Bellafeather's music is "Progressive Folk Art Rock" with influences in jazz, folk rock, classical, and the avant-garde. She takes the bleeding edge approach to composing music resulting in an experience appealing to true music aficionados. To take you there, Bellafeather uses ambitious lyrical themes and melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic experimentation. Her music sounds like and amalgamation of Elvis Costello, k.d. Lang, XTC, The Sundays, Queen, Sun 60, Jeff Buckley, Ani DiFranco, and Rufus Wainwright. However, these artists are only some of her variety of influences.
Jo Beth Henderson is a Texan artist with a twist, to put it simply. She is a proud Native American, Choctaw tribe and Scottish descendant, which has flavored her influences in music and life as an artist from early on. Being a Libra also places much emphasis on her tendencies of style and expressivity. She is truly a by-product outcome of her generation, being born in 1973 into the luxurious lap of the classical rock era. Her performance debut was in theatre at age seven. Throughout her childhood she discovered the joys of musical theatre, comedy, songwriting, dance, and playing musical instruments. Soon, she developed these passions through instruction in piano and singing in choir. Coming from a large family that is extremely gifted in music in various aspects also set the way she views the worlds around us.
Jo Beth has also received critical acclaim for performances in theatre and cyber-opera works in Austin, TX. She has been nominated by the B. Iden Payne Awards committee and the Austin Circle of Theatres for her performances in many shows and for choreography of Pythia Dust , written by Ethos. At the 2005 B. Iden Payne Awards, she received the award for Best Leading Actress in a Drama for the experimental show, Hole , with the Vortex Theatre.
Still, the projects and capacities expand with every work embarked. One of her most recent styles of performance is collaborating and starring in ritual and experimental theatre. This type of performance has given her great experience in stage combat, stunt work, musical and choreographical collaboration with artists and directors.
Her debut full-length album, Inundare, premiers the next phase of her artistic path. Be on the lookout for this colorful gal to be heading your way! Any requests?
All I can say to you through Indie Music. Check out my KIAC radio station, "All I Can Say". Here I showcase my music and other artist's music that I like.
"Inundare holds a cornucopia of styles, sounds, and subjects. Jo Beth leaps from genre to genre with the greatest of ease to produce an entertaining and sometimes surprising album. ... Jo Beth Henderson is one artist you should keep an eye on." (Stephanie Crosby, Indie In-Tune)
Inundare is "a true understatement of how much more Jo Beth can do". It is "incredibly well written" with "amazing back up vocal harmonies" (Rob Sfeir, The Recording Room)
