About me: My name is Maria Parasson (aka Mariah) ...I'm a Visual and Performing Artist from Ohio. My
cultural heritage is of Greek and Italian descent. I grew up
listening to the music from Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, and other Middle
Eastern countries and dancing has always been an important part of my
life. I began studying Belly Dance while in college earning my BFA/MFA then in 1991
discovered Habeeba's Dance of the Arts in Columbus, Ohio. www.habeebas.com
I've been a personal student of Habeeba's since 1991 and was an Instructor from 1997-2007 at Habeeba's Columbus. I perform
regularly all over the country as a soloist and former member of
Habeeba's Dance Orientale Troupe. I (Mariah) was a featured performer with the
Bellydance Superstars and the Oojami band (UK) on their U.S.A. tour. 2006 Winner in Personal Best National Middle Eastern Dance Competition, Za-Beth's Diva Pageant, and Jewel of the Nile. 2006 & 2007 Winner in the East Coast Belly Dance Classic Fantasy Artist Competition & Za-Beth's Annual Diva Pageant. 2008 Winner in Personal Best National Middle Eastern Dance Competition and The Midwest Bellydance Challenge. 2009 Finalist in The Bellydancer of the Year Competition. I consider myself an energetic, graceful dancer with a tremendous repertoire.
In addition to dancing, I'm proud of my work as an award-winning Fine Artist. I've exhibited and sold my artwork in galleries, museums, and universities throughout the United States for many years. My paintings can be viewed in both public and private collections.
