The Name of a Musician and Warrior during King David’s Reign – Kings and Chronicles
Pronounced BEN * NIGH * YAH
[Also, Hebrew name meaning “Built by God”]
BENAIAH, a talented group whose musical offering contains a blend of messages relevant to people all over the world. BENAIAH is clearly committed to providing rhythms with reasons and melodies with meaning. Music not only motivates the feet and hips to move, but also motivate the heart and mind to becoming more conscious. A great wealth of personal and professional experiences has been blended together by Joseph Williamson and Renita Nilajah Emanuel.
JOSEPH BENAIAH. Born in Jamaica. Early in his career, Joseph played guitar with the internationally known band Blues Busters. He also played guitar with the Debonnaires Band, which gave him the opportunity of playing guitar for the Legendary Bob Marley and the Wailers. In 1984, Joseph continued his quest for perfecting his musical abilities and met Calton Coffie. The two became co-writers on the productions of “We Nah Give Up” and some tunes from “Children of Israel”. As Calton Coffie moved on to become Inner Circle’s lead singer, Joseph became the producer and musical director for BENAIAH, taking the band to new and different heights, promoting and touring countries such as Japan, France, Mexico, Brazil, Canada and the United States. Joseph teams up with Dean Fraser to produced a new CD with the finest musicians in Jamaica, to be released during summer of 2007.
RENITA “NILAJAH” EMANUEL. African-American. Nilajah gained her musical experiences singing in local church and school choirs, school plays and local talent shows as well as other musical productions throughout her community. During the 1980s, Nilajah worked with Jamaican artists such as Cedric M. Brooks and Natty Scotty. With her song writing and vocalizing abilities, Nilajah joined BENAIAH providing exceptional harmonies on all BENAIAH productions. You can hear Nilajah’s musical talents as well as her writing ability when you play BENAIAH’s CDs. While BENAIAH was instrumentally supporting numerous international artists as a backing band, Nilajah was there providing exceptionally blended harmonies.
In 1994, BENAIAH won an award for “The Best Live Band in Miami, Florida.” In 1996, Benaiah toured Japan, Canada and Brazil with Reggae Legend Dawn Penn. In 1999, the group was voted “Best Reggae Band in Miami,” by The Miami New Times. Also, in 1999, BENAIAH along with the Mighty Diamonds, toured the United States. In 2000, BENAIAH performed in the Vermont Reggae Fest as well as backing the renowned Reggae Artist, Freddie McGregor. In 2002, BENAIAH, along with the Reggae Queen, Marcia Griffith, O.D. and Reggae saxophonist, Dean Fraser, toured throughout the United States. During the ending of 2003, until the beginning of 2004, BENAIAH toured with the Grammy Award Winner, Michael Rose, throughout the United States. Benaiah has worked with almost every known Reggae artist out of Jamaica that traveled without their band and have worked with some R&B artist such as Percy Sledge and The Delfonics, just to name a few.
In these days of musical mediocrity, off-key singers, unoriginal lyrics, copied melodies and done-over rhythms, it is refreshing and marvelous to hear real musical, vocal artistry and instrumental creativity, which BENAIAH’s songs are full of.
" Decide to be happy today, to live with what is yours - your family, your business, your job, your luck. If you can't have what you like, maybe you can like what you have. Just for today, be kind, cheerful, agreeable, responsive, caring, and understanding. Be your best, dress your best, talk softly, and look for the bright side of things. Praise people for what they do and do not criticize them for what they cannot do. If someone does something stupid, forgive and forget. After all, it's just for one day. Who knows, it might turn out to be a nice day."
"Ambition, fueled by compassion, wisdom and integrity, is a powerful force for good that will turn the wheels of industry and open the doors of opportunity" My’Werks Music/Productions , Kingston, Jamaica.
