Ben Aronov est né à Gary, dans l’Indiana. Il a fait ses études au High School de Tulsa, Oklahoma, et a vingt ans est parti pour Los Angeles. Il a travaillé avec l’original band du “Lighthouse All-Stars”, qui comprenait Frank Rossolino, Bob Cooper, Stan Levy et Conte Condoli. Il a aussi fait des jam-sessions avec d’autres jeunes de la Côte Ouest des Etats-Unis, parmi lesquels on comptait Charlie Haden, Gary Peacock, Ornette Coleman, et Joe Maini. Il a joué avec le Quartet et le Big Band de Terry Gibbs , la vocaliste June Christy, et le saxophoniste Teddy Edwards.
En 1960, il s'installe à New York, ou il obtient un diplôme de Bachelor of Music de la Manhattan School of Music. Il a travaillé aussi comme accompagnateur pour Liza Minnelli, Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Lena Horne, Astrud Gilberto (..) Il a aussi joué en piano solo dans divers Club de Jazz à N.Y. Au théâtre il a joué dans les comédies musicales : “Promises, Promises” et “Cats” sur Broadway. Il a enregistré dans divers studios à New York (albums, publicités pour la TV, pour la radio).
Ben a eu le plaisir de jouer avec Jim Hall, Al Cohn, Zoot Sims, Lee Konitz, Herbie Mann, Roy Eldridge, Benny Goodman, Buddy Rich, Budd Johnson, Bucky Pizzarelli, Ken Peplowski, et Ruby Braff. Il a également fait des tournées avec le “Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra” sous la direction de Gunther Schuller et David Baker.
Il a fait aussi des séries de concerts en Europe avec Phil Woods en 2004 et en 2005.
Un concert solo enregistré à l’Ajmi d’ Avignon à été diffusé sur France Musique le 23 Février 2007.
Comme leader ses enregistrements comprennent : “Introducing Ben Aronov” (Progressive) 1977 avec Billy Hart & Jay Leonhart, “Shadow box” (Arbors) 1978 avec Tom Harrel & Bob Brookmeyer, “The Best Thing For Me” (Arbors) 1999 avec Murray Wall & Tom Mellito, “Alone Together” (WolfRose) 2006 duo avec Jay Leonhart.
Il a aussi enregistré avec : Ken Peplowski, Lee Konitz, Jim Hall, Budd Johnson, Benny Goodman, Zoot Sims, Astrud Gilberto, Morgana King, Terry Gibbs.
