“It is worthy; it is from the earth, from the universe.”
- Doug Treadway, Nightflying
". . . an intoxicating, and intoxicated, swirl. Adventurous, raucous, introspective, and exploratory. . ."
- Sean Clancy, The Daily Citizen
“. . .obtuse, oblique and often exciting music that’s eccentric, to say
the least.”
- Mick Skidmore, Relix
The earliest known BEN.BEN. manifestation occurred in 1995 as a trio
whose repertoire ranged from boogies to shuffles. Known primarily in the Little Rock area as the Bar-B-Q Blues Band, the group expanded and contracted over two years until the only remaining members were two of its founders, Jeff Davis on guitar and Jonathan Taylor on drums.
After continued periods of expansion and contraction, BEN.BEN. has surfaced as an umbrella organization (i.e., BEN.BEN. Presents) spanning four distinct musical ensembles and branching into theatrical productions such as "Assorted Jellies & Jams" (Fall 2007).
:: Shuffle Band plays boogies, woogies, shuffles, rocks, rolls, and epic explorations into Southern Americana in an attempt to mine the depths of American musical traditions, stretching from New Orleans to Chicago and beyond, and present those jewels in a recognizable yet rarefied format.
:: Sir Threadius Mongus features an original repertoire that includes epic swing explorations and the occasional jazz unstandard.
:: BEN.BEN. is pretty well occupied with their new spaceship right now. It's almost finished, so you should check it out sometime.
:: .NEB.NEB Posh-Crow is the experimental monster created when no fewer than 7 to 12 BEN.BEN.-approved artists gather to embellish upon the lengthy BEN.BEN. cantus.
The Lizard King and the Jaguar Prince battle atop the pyramid of Toth where the phoenix was sacrificed to the mad eyed Horace in solar spiral till the ben.ben. stone was lifted to the stars by the watchers of light, the Lux, ending all contentions.
