Influences
I hope that I'm influenced by life, nature, people, science, math, visual art... Musically these artists: George Garzone, Maria Schneider, David Binney, Mark Turner, Dave Douglas, Chris Potter, Brad Mehldau, Bela Fleck, Keith Jarrett, James Brown, Tower of Power, Donny Mcaslin, Michael Cain, Natalie McMaster, Tim Ries, Jamiroquai, Bela Bartok, György Ligeti, Kurt Rosenwinkel.
Toronto based saxophonist & composer Ben Dietschi grew up in Manitoba and began his career playing saxophone & piano in jazz and rock bands. After a BMus, and extensive performing in western Canada, he has since relocated to Toronto where he completed a masters in music, studying saxophone & composition with Tim Ries and composition with Andrew Downing and Terry Promane. Since his early years Ben has played in a variety of styles and musical settings. He has been a part of many diverse musical ensembles, often managing and directing the groups.
Ben's performance experience includes major festivals and venues in Canada as well as international performances in Europe and the U.S. His most recent projects include the The Pathways Group, The Convergence Quartet, and the Synergy Trio. Ben's style reflects a broad spectrum of expression, and a willingness to seek out new directions.
"All art should express something about the human condition; I hope that my music can do the same."
Thanks man. Gotta make some adjustments in the mix though... I've been listening to my tracks through headphones for 6 weeks and they don't sound the same on speakers now that I'm home. An ongoing process... haha. Are we rehearsing some time soon?
Ben, thanx for the kind words. yeah I would really like to have more chance to play with you. I like your playing very much and I think you're developing your own sound which I should work on too.
Thats possible so long as you come out here before he takes off (around the 19th I think). Even if its just jamming. Otherwise we can always play the Lake or Clancys. Those are easy to hook up. Hell, maybe we can even play the 40!
